RE: Recruiting 2017-18
Okay I'm done with my break from talking basketball.. Let's get down to it!

1. Tadas Kararinas IS eligible this year. He's pretty much an unknown. I will say this though: Findlay Prep isnt a school with a basketball team, its a basketball team with a school. He will come in with a grasp on the game, that's for sure.

2. Jayden Saddler has been on the Drexel "radar" since the Bruiser days, so I would not put much stock in him joining Drexel at this point. I saw him play a couple of years ago. He's small, like Kurk Lee looks big small. He's also Delaware Grad Devon Saddler's little brother. I spoke with his dad a bit at the tournament that I was at. Nice guy, so he comes from a strong, supportive, humble family which is always a plus.

3. Every addition that Spiker has made this season is 6'8 or taller. I dont think we've ever had a team this big before.

Perhaps that is to make up for all the short guys he brought in last year - Kurk Lee at a generous 5'10, Harper and Isabell at only 6'1.

What was your impression of the big guys in the scrimmage you mention on the blog? Do you think we'll get much contribution from any of them this year?

They looked good.. It was Perry, Doles, Butler, Demir, (I believe) Sam Green and Kararinas..

I think that Demir Perry and Doles will all see time at the "4." Perry apparently can run, Demir can shoot, and Doles i just a wildcard if you ask me. I like the "stretch 4" option that Demir brings to the floor. Judging from his numbers last year, he was a pretty good shooter too.

Kararinas I think will be the odd man out for this group.

There are reasons to be excited about this kid. He's apparently an excellent shooter who has flown way under the radar.

Another article from Josh Verlin at COBL.
http://www.cityofbasketballlove.com/news...id=1566508

I would generally wonder bit about getting a guy not being recruited by other D1 schools, but I also had reservations about a 5-9 guy and some random kid from Iceland too and I think that turned out okay last year.

RE: Recruiting 2017-18
Maybe we can get this thread pinned and renamed to just Recruiting.

Anyway, we had an offered kid from NC in on an unofficial visit recently, 6-3 (6-6?!?) G Isaac Suffren. Here's a writeup:
Quote:Isaac Suffren used the Chick-Fil-A as his own personal playground and was named to the All-Tournament team. Suffren has been putting up big time numbers and is one fierce competitor. He currently sports offers from Drexel (From his Chick-Fil-A performance), Charleston Southern, and Presbyterian. The “do it” all guard reminds us of Furman’s All-Conference Devin Sibley. Isaac has long arms and excellent strength. He can score from all three levels, but more importantly, he is accustomed to making winning plays.
Suffren plays with passion and conviction and is going to be a nice late-season addition to some lucky collegiate team.

Quote:Suffren went for an event high of 40 points. It was a great performance for him, and is able to score it at all three levels. Even while scoring 40 points, Suffren played expert defense (at multiple positions) and rebounded the ball very well. Along the way Suffren picked up offers from the likes of Presbyterian and Charleston Southern. He is coming for some heads his senior year, coaches need to look this way, he wins.

Suffren is from Charlotte )where I live) - checked around from the locals here, he is an intriguing prospect. General consensus - kind of shocked that he has gotten more attention. He certainly has mid major talent.

We should take a look at Jeff Planutis from Hazleton. His team beat District 1 champ Abington last week and had Philly Public League champs on the ropes yesterday before losing in OT.

Even against that competition he was one of the best athletes on the floor. Several highlight reel dunks. Always wants to run the floor and attack the basket. Decent shooter.

He is 6’5” which might be why he only has an offer to Mount St. Mary’s. That’s better than Pitt Johnstown though. If we don’t take him W & M should. He’s their prototypical player except more athletic.

RE: Recruiting Thread
We picked up a JUCO transfer from Washington, Zach Walton. He put up good numbers at that level.

Here is an article from mid-season
http://www.heraldnet.com/sports/morton-h...ontention/

Hopefully Spiker saw something good beyond just his first name and he comes in and contributes right away next year.

He should be able to; JUCOs do not have to sit a year when they transfer- e.g. Demir last year. He'll have two years of eligibility

Demir did miss some games at the beginning of the year but that was for some games he played in Turkey that didn't meet the NCAA rules, I believe.

RE: Recruiting Thread
We needed a SF 6-6 and we have 3 spots left... I am happy they got him. I do expect 1 PF/C signing, 1 3pt specialist, and 1 best player available ( one of which will be redshirted a year).
