But they're not really using "Indy" as a brand. They have a UI brand, and they use "Greyhounds" or "Hounds" on their uniforms. The "UIndy" think is almost more of a letterhead or otherwise afterthought. And their web addresses are ___.uindy.edu

I'm thinking for example that IUPUI' uniforms say "INDY" on them. Or for that matter, since UIndy doesn't seem to be using it either, "INDIANAPOLIS".

UIndy is only a small DII school. I don't think they should be able to block anything.

Great win for Fort Wayne but let's not go overboard.

That said, obviously an impressive win that took advantage of a rare power team visiting the floor of a low- to low-mid-major conference team. And name jokes notwithstanding, it's a smart move to switch the athletic branding to "Fort Wayne". IPFW sounds undignified and vaguely urinary. IUPUI wouldn't have that opportunity with U of Indianapolis in town.

IUPUI at least sounds unique and original and since they got to D-I first, it is.

Cal State-Northridge once won at UCLA -- 16 years ago this week.

CSUN went on that year to have a really good season, they won 22 games and both their conference regular season and tournament. But they couldn't sustain it. Northridge won only 12 games the next season, and only 14 in each of the two seasons after that. Bye bye, momentum. Last year, Northridge was 5-11 in the Big West and 10-20 overall.

It wouldn't necessarily be program changing even if it had happened in the NCAA Tournament. I can think of numerous teams that never followed up their upset(s) in the Dance with anything substantial.

Too little time has passed, they're still fresh in my mind. Tell me, without Google, if you remember Ball State and UT-Chattanooga's runs to the Sweet 16? Didn't think so.

RE: IPFW program changing win
Maybe I didn't give them enough credit calling it program changing.
I was under the impression they play home games in a 2300 seat arena.
Having beaten third ranked Indiana kinda legitimizes the program to locals was my thinking.
I wasn't thinking their the next Gonzaga or anything.

I mean it helps but it would have meant much more if it had happened the NCAA Tournament.

Many times these wins are not program changing but coaching changing, as in the coach rides a good win and season to a better job while the school returns to 'baseline'.

Who cares if it, in fact, is not program changing --- it was a huge win that no one can hand-waive away.

Huge win for the Summit League, too.

Two Summit teams in the tourney. One Horizon. MAYBE two MVC. 05-stirthepot

No chance in hell the Summit gets 2 teams in. The conference just isn't that good.

IPFW is #133 even with the upset.

The Summit is riding that 12-24 record to a multibid year.

Give Indiana credit for playing at Fort Wayne.
A lot of classy Indiana fans have been quick to give Fort Wayne full credit.

Indiana indeed gets a huge amount of credit for playing Fort Wayne at War Memorial. A program changing win it is not, however.

Per the example Butler, VCU, Gonzaga and Creighton gave us, program changing is recruiting quality players which enables your school to have multiple wins against P5 schools; go to the Dance; win game(s) in the Dance; Repeat. Sustainability is key. What the win over Indiana did was give Fort Wayne much needed publicity to possible recruits. The school now must parlay this win, along with their recent Summit success, into said recruits. Another step in the direction of "program changing" was the rebranding. One game does not do it.

So at the very best, if everything breaks the right way (which it rarely does, or everybody would have over .500 seasons) ... "Fort Wayne gains what is potentially a watershed victory."
