They had no offers on the table besides the Bahamas Bowl. There were chances that St. Pete or the Military Bowl would have extended offers but there were no guarantees. Add in Navy having the ability to completely blow up everything; that has a recipe for disaster.
Can you all year talking about a bowl game. Finally getting enough wins to get into the first bowl game in history and then your AD playing the cards wrong and you sitting at home because you wanted a different bowl?

No chance a 9-3 ODU sits out entirely if 5-7 teams are going.
Worst-case scenario: they play Idaho in Arizona on the ASN affiliates that aren't preempting the game for Mama's Family reruns and infomercials about weiner medicines.

While the Bahamas Bowl isn't ideal for travel, it is on ESPN without much competition around it.
Someone mentioned that all CUSA fans need to watch as many CUSA bowl games as possible. TV ratings are at least as important as fans in the seats, and in the case of those bowl games outside of the continental US, even more so.

I tried to watch them all last year and will do so again. Always root for our teams to do well (although rooting for a certain rival is difficult lol)

ODU fans upset at the CHOICE of bowls? Come on, folks...you should be doing NOTHING other than celebrating your first ever bowl invitation. The Bahama's Bowl is a C-USA tie in, so someone was going. Travel to almost any bowl game is an issue for a large number of fans. I'm very excited ODU had an excellent season and is going to a bowl game. You should be too.

Yea the Bahamas Bowl, lol....Amazing to me ODU's first bowl ever, and some of you are acting as if you are too good for any of the CUSA tie ins every season that CUSA teams play in....What other possible options could ODU have first time out that was not a CUSA tie in, I would love to read that delusional story... Delusional is a good word for this chatter...

Here's the story about the other options that you would love to read. It's a bowl game for the players more than the fans. I wish an ODU fan hadn't started this tread. The Is team pump and I'm excited about seeing our first bowl. Think many were hoping for a driveable bowl game, as money and time gets tighter during the holidays.

"Selig accepted a bid to the Bahamas Bowl late Sunday night, though he said ODU had other options. Selig said he talked to officials with the Military Bowl in Annapolis, Md. He would not name other potential bowl options, but sources said the St. Petersburg Bowl in Florida was leaning toward offering ODU a bid."

Thanks, I think most ODU fans are this camp of being excited for what turned into a much better than expected season. And our first bowl game.

Exactly. Missing out would have been a mistake of epic proportions. Plus, waiting till after Navy plays is extremely risky.

I doubt that this is the reason. ODU travels pretty well, and many fans would like to have gone to a Bowl that they could travel too reasonably. Not to mention that we just came back from the Bahamas with the Basketball team. Add to that the likely lack of fans in the seats, some diehards are disappointed, especially after a 9 win season. (We likely could have gotten this Bowl with 6 or even 5 wins).
In any case, most of us are excited, and I'm sure the players and coaches are. That's the main thing. We get a chance to win a postseason football game on ESPN with no other sports options competing with us.

Exactly. Its the location and the fact that we have played EMU the past two years. Personally, I'd rather be in a worse locale like Montgomery playing Ark St or something just because I could drive there and get home quickly and affordably. That said, Im thrilled to be in any bowl and we aren't good enough to turn our nose up at any opponent. I think most ODU fans would agree. And Im sure the student athletes love the location and thats whats most important. They earned this.

+1
I am more than excited about the season and making it to the bowl and unlike some i don't have problem with the opponent too as i am pretty sure EMU is a different animal this season. I hate that this location can't be well travelled and this Monarch Nation won't be making a good showing of it on TV. I personally had plans for a week of staycation with my family. I am very disappointed but came to terms to watch it on a big screen and celebrate it.

The problem is that you cant fly into Nassau and stay at a Holiday Inn like you can in Hawaii. Add to that you have a local population that probably does not have American Football in their top two sports.

I'm excited, because:
A) First bowl appearance in program history
B) First opportunity to have a 3-0 all-time record against an FBS team (3rd game vs. EMU in as many years)
C) A televised game! On ESPN!
