UNT won 3 CUSA games....
Rice
Marshall
S. Miss
OOC
Army in a game where the weather played a huge role
FCS
It's a nice improvement over last year but not COY worthy
I think the only 3 coaches that's in the running is Brohm, Holtz, Wilder and if Brohm didn't win for going undefeated ...he doesn't this year.
So you are down to 2 and Holtz may have knocked his chances down to about 25% after last week
But if UNT and ODU were in the running...
how do you not give it to Brohm when his team that was expecting a slight rebuilding year basically beat the other two coaches...by halftime
My rationale, while maybe flawed... in Littrell's first year at UNT, he took a 1-11 team and went 5-7. He also beat a solid Army team. My close second was Wilder, who beat UTSA and UTEP when UNT couldn't.
I could see the other guys you listed winning, including Holtz, but only if he beats WKU.
Yes, Brohm did a great job with this years team.
If nothing else, its a positive that more than 2 coaches are in the discussion.

While I appreciate the nomination, Lambert's poor clock management cost us the game against FIU. If he had pulled off that one and held the lead against Rice (which was not his fault), I'd give it to him.
RE: Who wins CUSA Coach of the Year award this year?
I could see the consideration, but part of the reason they went from 1 to 5 wins seems to be adding a bunch of JUCO kids. That got them more wins in 1 year, but does it help long term? I am on the fence on that candidate.

Based on off season message board fodder here, Brohm should clearly be the CUSA coach of the year....Most had us falling off the earth due to our 35 year "Dan Marino" QB graduating...
RE: Who wins CUSA Coach of the Year award this year?
The main reason I would take Brohm over Wilder is play against quality opponents. I think ODU is a good team, but ODU caught a big break playing teams during times of struggle. I don't think ODU beats USM this year while healthy ( La Tech effect). And the schedule played heavily in ODU's favor (not ODU's fault) it's just how things worked out. Not playing Tech or a healthy MT like WKU did or catching USM during they're injured stretch ......those games alone could have brought ODU to a possible 6-6 season ( who knows ) but I do know that MT and Tech was was tougher than Charlotte or UTEP. Proud of what ODU has done , won the games they should but lost the toss up game badly
RE: Who wins CUSA Coach of the Year award this year?
Even without beating La Tech in the Championship Game (which I think Western will do); Brohm Wins COY. Since ODU never plays MT, can't really give an opinion about Wilder other than he has a good record this year.

This. Jeff Brohm deserves COY if WKU wins on Saturday. If Tech wins Holtz should be considered also. Tech lost 3 NFL Draft picks and 4 others that are on NFL teams. 2015 was one of the most talented Tech teams ever (Holtz still couldn't get it done 2015).
As far as ODU, Wilder had the easiest schedule in CUSA and his team got manhandled in 2 games against average FBS competition- NC State and Appy, and completely destroyed against WKU. Wilder did win 9 games but the overall body of work is not that impressive considering the soft schedule and the blow-out losses

Or the teams struggled because they played ODU.
USM would have been a toss up. There defense still didn't shut down our offense so it could have been a high scoring shootout.
I guess we don't know whether MTSU was better or not. They got blown out by Vandy, lost close games to LT and WKY, barely beat FIU and Marshall, and lost to UTSA and Marshall. I could see the case presented, but they gave up 35 to FIU and 56 to Rice.
Agreed that MT is tougher than Charlotte, but inferior to WKY.
RE: Who wins CUSA Coach of the Year award this year?
Being unbiased, probably Wilder. Both he and Littrell improved their team's win total by 4. Wilder had an advantage of already having a 5 win team and not completely having to switch systems like SL. I think what SL did was more impressive, but Wilder gets the nod because his team is obviously better with still a good amount of improvement from last season.
Wilson is up there, as much as I hate to admit it, but I still think he had a lot more to work with than Seth Littrell did. His recruiting skills obviously beat SL so far, but I think SL is the better coach.

Average NCAA teams (50-65 range) are much better than any team in CUSA not named Western Kentucky) and maybe LT.
A blowout loss to Southern Miss is not impressive, either.
RE: Who wins CUSA Coach of the Year award this year?
Wilder had a QB who only started 5 games, coming back from a big injury before the season. Also the #1 RB was hurt and was slowly brought back in. ODU got much better as the season went on. For a team picked 6th in the East and go 9-3, that is a solid job. If not Wilder, then it has to be WKU's Brohm for their fantastic season.
