I'd like this bowl to be with a better conference too, but the Superdome is a great place for a bowl game.
You do realize that C-USA is the lowest rated conference of 2016 right? (and it isn't even close) A team that finished torward the bottom of the Belt beat a ranked SDSU team easily and beat Mississippi State...
And your co-champion A-State lost all of its OOC games, to include an FCS school. I think USA's upsets were just flukes, tbh. And we all know how bad #FailState was this year, anyway.
For as bad as State is OOC, South Alabama is the exact opposite. If those two could even things out, we would be on solid footing. As far as I know Arkansas State has always had issues out of conference; but more recently Blake Anderson treats them as glorified scrimmages because he doesn't see any value in winning them.
USA's wins would be flukes if they didn't also beat San Diego State last season. USA got lucky in Starkville because Mississippi State missed a FG. Much like Tennessee got lucky to beat App by fumbling into the end zone in overtime and having two App players dive over the ball.
Regardless, one of C-USA's top teams, number two in wins, lost to the top Sun Belt team by 4 scores.
Sorry Pal. Despite what our fan base claims we are after watching the championship game i came to a conclusion that we are not even close to the top 2 which WKU and LT are and even then we picked up steam as the season progressed. While both of these losses are humiliating they came in a really bad time for ODU. Once when they were experimenting with a Frosh QB and our defense is just starting to build and the second time with our defense completely going retarded mode which i guess sound like excuses which they truly are. So don't even compare anything in the sunbelt to the top two in CUSA. No you are not even close and WKU would throttle the **** outta appy.

With Mullens healthy, I don't see how USM loses this one. I know Southern Miss fans aren't thrilled about this bowl or season but I suspect it will have one of the better TV ratings out of the G5 bowls

He returned for the LaTech team and we won by 15. At the beginning of the game they had Mullens and Howard in the game at the same time for an entire series. It was a thing of beauty! Then Nick got hot and Keon took a back seat.

I mean, every ranking out there has us right there with WKU and above La Tech, so is there any actual basis for that?

Its my personal opinion after watching these teams progress through the season. It has nothing to do with the polls. From what i have seen neither Troy, Snarky state or Appy will be able to keep up with these offenses that i am referring to. You just can't and like i said thats my personal opinion from watching these teams so no i can't prove them by pointing to a certain poll. I am just pointing that to an App poster saying you guys beat us by 4 scores. We haven't played LT this year but WKU could've very well hung 100 on us if they wanted to.

Off topic question for Southern Miss folks.Noticed in a Coaching Search.com article that you all have the LOWEST asst. coach salary pool in C-USA and among the bottom ten in FBS.Why and is there any effort to raise the level??

We pay what we can. In the early 90's when the sec payouts started to grow our legislature decided it was bad to have any state subsidies for athletics.
Our budget is 1.5 mill more than la tech yet we can spend no e &g dollars on any salary connected to athletics.
But the answer is yes, we have to sell more tickets to do so. As a side note. you will see Shannon Dawson only gets 50k, he is still on UK's payroll.

There is a discussion about this on BGN. The last crop of coaches (under Monken) had higher pay across the board. We went cheap this time and I hope it doesn't destroy us. Also, Dawson would make a minimum $100k more if Kentucky wasn't paying him a cool $550K this year. We were paying him less than a tenth of his total take when his offense tore up the school paying the other +90% :)

USM certainly went lower this time on assistant coaches but as just stated what may be the biggest factor is that our OC Dawson while making $500,000 this year is paid only a tiny bit by USM. Kentucky pays the rest. The TV revenue decrease really hurt us. We are working hard to generate funds to do what we need to do. Firing the conference commissioner would help.

Not sure if it applies to our asst coaches or not but I believe Hopson's contract is incentive friendly so maybe the asst coaches are like that as well. Even if that is the case it looks bad when base pay is that low and at the same time a bad season makes their pay "less" to a degree.

Well isn't that the purpose of it being "incentive" based? If you are successful you get rewarded, if not then you don't.

Haven't heard anything updated, but as of last Thursday all of the $60 tickets were sold out (Sec. 141-143). Sounds like a good start to a good atmosphere to me.
Edit: Friday to Thursday

"Usually" the AD or someone associated with the ticket office will say how ticket sales are going but I've yet to see anything besides the above post so not sure at this point.

Our AD rarely provides any updates. Great Segway to build excitement but not the case

Last I've heard is we are just south of 10,000 sold through the university. Which is well shy of our previous ticket sales for the other 4 times we went.
