IMO, it's an utter slap in the face that for the second year in a row that the league sticks us in a place where a vast majority of our alumni/fans cannot attend. Bowl games that are not easy to get to plus on Christmas Eve - both times. Meanwhile a 5-7 team gets one of the best bowls that we have to offer. I understand ticket sales are important but it's not like we have a tie to one in our back yard. But there are damn sure a lot more attainable ones that Nassau and Honolulu. Once we moved up to I-A I vowed to go to every single bowl game that we were in. And I did that until last year. Guess I won't be making this one either.
This league has yet to do one thing to impress me since we joined it. Very disappointing.
Ok. All done now. Good luck to everyone in the bowl games.
Probably not a conference decision. HoD probably lobbied hard for this. Not sure why LaTech fans wouldn't prefer FW, myself.

I hope UTSA brings a good crowd to NM. This is where you make a statement of how the fans travel and what kind of fan base you really have.

I think they did a decent matchup for everyone except ODU. The program's first bowl game in the Bahamas probably isn't what they wanted, but this is a symptom of something I pointed out before the season started, which was that our bowl lineup this year was very light on eastern based destinations for east division schools.
And it could get worse for the northeastern schools (ODU, Charlotte, to a degree Marshall) if the Florida schools get better because whatever Florida bowls CUSA has that season might be tempted to go for the local team as the NO and HOD did. Unless CUSA manages a tie or at least a secondary agreement with a more northern bowl (Military? Belk? A bowl moving to South Carolina?), that issue will remain.
Under normal circumstances I would agree, but their attendance is so dismal I'm not sure it would matter.

I totally understand your frustration, and I agree, MTSU shouldn't be getting shipped off the mainland again. I think C-USA should make a priority of placing a C-USA bowl in Nashville. There just isn't enough fan friendly bowl sites for the eastern programs.

I couldn't find a stat for 2016, but Miami (OH) averaged 15,000 attendance last year, and for 2016 got beat by WKU and went 0-6 in their first 6 games, and they get an ACC fight. Seems a little screwy.

For UTSA, last time NM was in their own bowl there were about 28k. I think we will have a bunch of people going too. So the 1st bowl game of the year might look good attendance wise.

As "bad" as it seems for some, at least we have 7 teams (over half of this year's CUSA teams) playing in a bowl game

Usually I'd agree HOD is one of the best, but this year it doesn't live up to that. If you were there you'd be playing a 6-6 or 7-5 Army, not a P5 team like normal.
I fully understand your frustration with going off-shore for a second straight year, but the bright side of this is that you get longer for Stockstill to try and heal than if you played in, say, New Mexico or New Orleans.
All that said, MTSU probably deserved HOD more than UNT, anyway. The late season collapse is what you can blame for this, imo. If the I-Bowl had an opening, I think you'd have ended up there (or Tech would have and maybe you take Tech's spot in Armed Forces).
Agree with others that we need an extra eastern bowl or two.

Agree wholeheartedly. We filled all of our bowl tie-ins and even picked up an extra bowl. Compared to last year, this is a great situation.
Now we just need to win these games. USM should beat ULL, UNT already beat Army once. ODU has a good shot to beat EMU, and if MTSU gets its swagger (and Stockstill) back, they should manhandle Hawaii. UTSA playing New Mexico should be pretty tough. Tech vs Navy and WKU vs Memphis are gonna be huge games and could go either way.
Two years ago didn't we win the bowl cup? (or whatever they call the award to the conference with the best bowl record) Let's go for that again.

There appears to be a nice buzz about. W are expecting a good showing. Personally, I'm flying in from D.C. and my brother is driving up from SA.

Actually not as bad next year as we will have two Florida bowls next year, but we only had one this year. Before the season, i was thinking this would have likely been the year Marshall gets shipped to the Bahamas (so I started to save for it in the summer). Little did I know that we'd morph into literally one of the worst teams in the nation. Either way, 2017 has more friendly now opportunities for the east division.

Looks like the league's playing on the road this bowl season...
New Mexico in New Mexico
Louisiana in Louisiana
Hawaii in Hawaii
And both Navy and Army...
I like:
New Mexico over UTSA (home field advantage enough)
USM over ULL
Memphis over WKU (WKU coach is distracted)
ODU over EMU
La Tech over Navy (Navy starting QB and RB out)
Hawaii over MTSU (hard to beat Hawaii in Hawaii)
UNT over Army

Perhaps, but I'm presuming that if FIU or FAU go on a run, it'll goose their attendance numbers, and that might be enough if the choice is 5,000 fans already in the neighborhood vs. 1,000 from out of town. Everybody loves a winner, even in South Florida.

I don't think that AZ bowl is a CUSA tie anymore. It seems that the Sunbelt has a permanent tie now. Really wished CUSA kept it.

Only thing I can say is there will be a crapload of people at the New Orleans bowl this year. But overall, our bowl lineup stinks. I used to think the Liberty Bowl was a so-so bowl. Now, I'd gladly take it back.

Also, Navy down to their 3rd string QB against Army. Couldn't move the ball vs Temple
All G5 slots are crappy. AAC champ Temple, 10-3 and ranked 23 in the AP is all set to play 6-6 Wake Forest, loser of 5 out of the past 6 games in the Military Bowl
.
But, Wake is P5! Lol--absolutely zero prestige in playing or beating them.

I was thinking more along the lines of our bowl lineup generally sucking sweaty donkey balls.
