John Glenn passes away
John Glenn may have been the last true American hero. Marine pilot in WW II & Korea (Ted Williams was in the same unit & his sometimes wingman), astronaut, senator & presidential candidate - a truly remarkable man.

-3rd person to ever conduct an independent sub-orbital human spaceflight (after Gagarin and Shepard)

-5th person in space

-First American to orbit the Earth

-First person to land (splashdown) in a spacecraft after orbital flight (the Russians landed on farmland, not water)

-Congressional Space Medal of Honor in 1978

-US Senator (Ohio) from 1974-1999

-Oldest person ever to go into space (77, in 1998)

-Presidential Medal of Freedom (2012)

Quite the resume. He belongs to the stars now.
