Well, according to the writers of the movie, the plot is about a woman and diverse group of rebels versus an all white empire.

I always thought the Empire was a brutal dictatorship like Cuba or N. Korea but people say Lucas based it on the Nazis. Primarily white or Caucasian men defeated the Nazis (who were similar racially). Conservatives would of course prefer a Republic not the Empire.

This is one of my favorite SW movies of all time. I think the singular mission focus, carryover of real people playing Stormtroopers, and less attempts to be funny really helped. The audience was easily able to grasp who characters were and what was going on, even for those that had never seen SW before (didn't realize that was possible).

Oh. And that Vader scene at the end. He FINALLY doesn't seem to be a lovable bad guy anymore and his persona is back to the angry, maniac that kills to kill.

2. A New Hope
3. Rogue One
4. Return of the Jedi
5. Revenge of the Sith
6. Force Awakens (Kylo Ren/Adam Driver ruined it after he took his mask off, and turned into a crybaby)

I don't disagree. For everyone who wants to go to a movie and not see politics, I have nothing but respect for them.

The fact remains however that the writers clearly wanted their audience to see political similarities. The're miscalculation it seems was in the sophistication of the Trump supporter.

Good for you. I prefer Star Trek however over Star Wars. Star Trek was clearly for the more intellectual Si Fi individual.

In a related note, I saw that Carrie Fisher died this morning.

I wonder how that is going to affect Part 8 and 9.

They will just CGI her into them. After seeing Rogue 1 this weekend, I was amazed at how actors that have been dead for some time were stars in the movie.

We went and saw it. Frankly the eye candy wasn't all that great. This film had the feel of straight to DVD about it.

Kind of eerie seeing it the day Carrie Fisher died.

Saw it this morning.

This is now my favorite Star Wars movie and Jyn Urso is my favorite Star Wars character.

That's going to depend on personal taste. I liked that it:

1. is a stand-alone story, with a beginning, middle and end.
2. has a compelling lead character played by a compelling actress.
3. melds perfectly with the original Star Wars (I refuse to use the new name)
4. lacks cliches like the Dark Night of the Soul and Romantic Interest

It's not a Star Wars movie. It's a movie set in the Star Wars background. I really, really liked it.
