Multicultural appropriation
This story is easy to have missed as it appeared in Saturday's Wall Street Journal, in the book review section, under the children's books reviews. It addresses the recent actions by the PC police in regards to fiction that includes persons with different ethnicity than the author.

In its simplest form, some are arguing that fiction authors should not include characters who have a differing ethnic background than the author.

One example:

Quote: The story traces four centuries of social and domestic change by showing the evolving ways in which families have prepared a sweet dish called blackberry fool. The book’s crime, to its detractors, was what one called the story’s “degrading” depiction of an enslaved mother and daughter in 1810 enjoying themselves as they make and taste the dessert.

Good thing Mark Twain wasn't hindered by this as Huck would have been alone on that raft.

Waiting for artists, writers, and musicians to realize they are the first to go in the revolution. Many comedians have already clued in.

Well when are they going to give up the rainbow back to Christianity?

RE: Multicultural appropriation
I don't want to ever see a black writer write a story with white characters. Those days are over.

That's ******. I've always hope for more black/minority characters in the books I read. Where there are some not-so-good depictions--and there are tropes I normally dislike--I think many authors try to be as authentic as possible.

If it's a bad depiction, give it bad reviews in big enough numbers.

What do you think?

The article points out that there has been a movement in the children's fiction writing community to have more characters and stories about minorities.

Now that's a damned if you do and damned if you don't if I've ever heard one.
