The difference is in the spin, and also in which stories each outlet decides to ignore altogether. Neither side's media reports things that are flat-out fantasy with any regularity (although Rather and his counterpart over at NBC Brian Williams have both been caught doing so).

As a quick edit for ya ole Beev, the description of obama as "a Kenyan born" black man was edited out of his 'Dreams of My Father' just before he ran for his Senate seat from Illinois.

The story that got Dan Rather fired involved documents forged in an effort to incriminate a sitting President. That's a pretty big deal. If it's the underlying truth you're concerned about, well, for all we know Bush was in communication with his commanding officer about his responsibilities. He was an Air National Guard member. He learned to fly at least one series of combat aircraft and was therefore an asset to his nation. Nobody expected him to be Rambo, FFS, and all this nit-picking of his service history is pretty misplaced anyway... none of which is meant to imply that G.W. Bush wasn't a terrible President. He absolutely was the worst President of my lifetime.

Just for the record, I didn't think "liberal" or "democrat" were bad things to be until pretty recently. What pushed me over the edge was probably their reaction to the Planned Parenthood videos. It's like, some of their own got caught chopping up babies for profit, and instead of condemning them, they doubled down on some positions that already made a lot of us uneasy. Say what you want about Drumpf and his cohorts, but they at least make a show of disowning the fringe elements of their base when it becomes absolutely necessary. They at least have some moral compass other than "we're right about everything and anyone who opposes us is an irredeemable knuckle-dragger." That sort of message / attitude just doesn't connect with people.
