The point here is that it could be like a two year trial. Sam Houston State wants to give FBS a try? Fine, move FBS Independent and give it a go for a few years. Doesn't work out? Fine, move back down to FCS.

But maybe it does work out ... maybe they do pretty well against the FBS teams and that turns into an invite from a FBS conf. The point is.... let them try it, in a manner that has zero effect on the FBS conf teams.

I do have decency. Some of it just eroded after Boise State was added in 2012. At least GCU has beach volleyball, men's volleyball and men's soccer, and is reasonably close by.

NoDak is correct. Grand Canyon was a non-profit school during their D2 period with UC Riverside, Cal State Bakersfield and UC San Diego.

Nobody really thought the WAC was doing a football announcement today, right? It's a Friday afternoon before a holiday weekend with zero leaks anywhere beforehand. Not even the WAC is that bad at PR.

Friday afternoon announcements are normally reserved for bad news. Expelling Chicago State? That could be good news for the WAC getting new schools, but they don't want to rub in the wound for Chicago St .

If anything, I could see something like "And Chicago St submitted a plan to withdraw from the conference by the end of the 2018-19 athletic year." hidden somewhere at the end of the press release, and not mentioned during the announcement.

Cal Baptist being added. My guess is we won't hear or read anything about Chicago St, for now.

Cal. Baptist still needs a couple of years to go in D2 before they could make a move. They somebody to join now. Colorado Mesa could be a possibility to join now and Cal. Baptist later.

Probably the only way for it to work. Shuffle along the football/no football line with the two leagues. Lots of moving parts, but who knows.
