From the article, it sounded like the parties involved were disciplined. But this isn't news. 6th graders are cruel to each other at times. They're 12. If you're that passionate about it, drive to Missouri and volunteer to be a damn bus monitor.

I agree, yet whenever someone is cruel to an alphabet school child assemblies and expensive anti bullying training is required....

I feel bad for the kid, but I can tell that the parents on either side aren't exactly people that I want to be around. Shouldn't get your kids involved in political disputes either way. They aren't old enough for the nuance required to view these things in a mature manner. That kid knows just as much about making America "great again" as the dog across the street. The offenders shouldn't have been allowed to be influenced to react that way to a symbol.

We're already going to destroy this nation with our poison from both sides, let's not pass this to the children who are going to have to salvage our ruins some day.

This is terrible. The parents should be ashamed of themselves for sending him to school like that. Talk about indoctrinization.

I said in another thread that it is irresponsible in today's hypercharged political climate to send your child out advertising political stances unaccompanied. You are putting your child's safety at risk by doing so. These issues have created hysteria and have brought out violence instantly from people than normally would never engage in it. I know damn well I would not allow my 12 year old son to wear that hat out in public outside of a Trump rally.

No, see? That's the problem.

I probably wouldn't send my kid out in that hat either (if he weren't already 18 by now, and fully capable), but would/should anyone fear sending ones child to school to sing "Hmmm, hmmm, Obama", or wear an I Like Her> shirt?

Who would possibly defend someone attacking that kid? What "teacher" would insist on that Ooooooofensive shirt or hat be removed our turned inside out?

Why allow for that and/or excuse it?

I can only imagine a "right wing" teacher taking a student to task like this in this way and the complete destruction that would ensue.

The other direction? Hero's. Or martyrs.

Shouldn't be tolerated, nor ignored, either way. So much for free speech... 07-coffee3

I think teachers that would be considered right wing are smart enough not to take their students to task based on their political views, I only ever heard my leftist teachers try and preach their viewpoints, one outright preached for socialism a whole trimester (the authoritarian type at that). As for family? Only my government reliant grandma while my staunchly Christian Republican family never once preached anything politically.

Me and my rebellious nature would have taken her to task 04-chairshot I got into some heated debate with my socialist teacher every once in awhile, he was a good dude all in all, just lacked the logic as to why socialism will never work.

That's the thing about this. I work with kids daily who have parents on both sides of the political spectrum. I've witnessed a a room full of 4th graders Boo Trump, and another class actually use the world Liberal to describe others.

None of those kids are old enough to actually have political opinions. They are simply copying the opinion of their parents. In this case, that 6th grader has no idea about Trump, and literally probably only has the hat because his parents bought it for him.

The idea that those parents, knowing how supercharged politically America is right now, would send him to school wearing that hat, and then immediately phone the media and drag their kid in front of television cameras when someone took offense to the hat, is frustrating. In this case, those parents only want their 10 minutes of fame, and knew exactly how they would get it. A large percentage of bullying in this country goes unnoticed because kids and parents are scared to report it. These guys probably couldn't wait to report it.

In a sense, the parents here are no better than the bullies.

So bullying is ok when the parents politics are right wingers?

Bullying is never okay. Unless of course you are the President.

I expected you libs to have no problem with this. Thanks for proving me right.

Maybe they should just go back to beating up the gay kid.

That would Make America Great Again.

I don't advocate bullying. I don't think children should feel threatened for wearing a Trump hat.

But let's be real. You only give a **** about this because it had something to do with Donald Trump. It's not news. It's 12 year olds being 12 years old. I notice you don't post threads about queer kids, or Muslim kids, or disabled kids getting bullied, yet you get "butthurt" about one kid wearing a MAGA hat.
By all means link to the story about the queer kid or Muslim kid or for that matter the disabled kid getting beat up. If it is happening it would definitely be news. I don't read about it so I assume not.

No,

My 12th grade government teacher was my favorite of perhaps all the schooling I had. A devoted leftist, hippie, first rung PETA savior, used to show up late for the school day cause he'd been out sneaking through peoples backyards unchaining and saving dogs, horses, cattle and such. No lie.

As we agree, 12th GRADE. Not 12 years old.

Big difference, no? 07-coffee3

So you blame the kid that wore the hat. You blame the parents for making him wear it. When in fact you don't know who's choice it was. But I will take the mother at her word when she says it was the boys choice. And you have no clue who called the TV station. The video which I assume you failed to watch said they reached out to this mother.

But I did not see you blame the parents of the bullies....the ones who are truly at fault.

They must be teaching their 12 year old it's OK to bully someone wearing a hat just because their parents don't like it. Right? Come on they are 12 years old..were else would they get the hate and ideal it's OK to do that? Must be the out of touch parents...right?

I don't for a second think the parents of this boy thought he would get bullied for wearing a cap to school. Personally I would have rather seen them go over to the bully's home and kick the crap out of the parents of the bully for teaching their child it was OK to do that.

Then those kids would see what actually happens when you bully people. Because if they are teaching their child to be a bully because of something as simple as a kid wearing a Trump cap. They need a ass kicking. Probably be worth having to bond out of jail.

I don't think the mother talked to the news for the attention. Most likely to let people know what rotten parents these bullies have
