FIU Stadium now Ricardo Silva Stadium
The owner of Miami FC, a tenant at the stadium, donated $3.7 million for the 5 year naming rights of the stadium. In turn, FIU installed new turf and replaced its video board.

Quote:“FIU has been an amazing partner since we began working together with Miami FC,” said Silva. “When I brought professional soccer to Miami last year, I never dreamed that the Miami FC would be playing in a stadium named after me. It’s a huge honor of which I’m very proud and grateful for.”

As well as a new name for the stadium, Riccardo Silva Stadium has also seen significant improvements made to the facility over the last two months, with completion of two major projects. The first is the installation of a new state of the art playing surface. The new surface, FieldTurf’s Revolution 360, features fibers that provide for optimal durability, resilience and feel and is used by many of the country’s biggest NFL and soccer teams.

“The quality of the field is very important to all players and coaches,” said Miami FC Head Coach Alessandro Nesta. “We’d like to first thank FIU and our owner Riccardo for making this possible, and everyone involved for installing such a state-of-art field ahead of the 2017 season. It is by far one of the best fields in the country.”

Riccardo Silva Stadium has also been enhanced by installation of a new videoboard, replacing the existing scoreboard, providing a huge boost to the fan experience at The Miami FC’s soccer games. Measuring approximately 31x59 feet, the new videoboard will feature a 13HD pixel layout, the premier technology for outdoor applications within the sports industry. It will have full live video and instant replay capabilities, along with multiple zones of content, including statistics and graphics.

In addition, FIU is currently building 2 practice fields (one natural grass one artificial), building a new dinning hall and lounge area for the football team, and renovating the coaches offices.

"5 Year naming rights"

So what happens in 5 years? Assuming they don't extend the contract, does it go back to being FIU Stadium or what? Can't see FIU wanting their stadium named after someone not related to the school or team forever.

My guess is, as long as Miami FC plays there and no one offers more money, they'll renew.

I like the 5 year naming rights it gives option for additional money beginning in year 6. Permanent naming rights for a one-time large donation forever ends that revenue stream and doesn't make sense unless it's for $10million plus.

As mentioned above, after 5 years, FIU can renegotiate the rights. Hopefully this will be a long term relationship that benefits both parties.

Quote:“When I launched the team, it was about doing something meaningful, not only for soccer, but also for the city of Miami and the Miami communities. FIU is one of the most important institutions of Miami, so this is a perfect combination to share a stadium. If two teams share a stadium, it is very beneficial because you can combine forces, combine resources, do cross-promotion, it’s a win-win situation.”

Grats guys! Any revenue is good revenue.

TBH the fact that FAU's stadium sitting right by I-95 for all the world to see not having naming rights just boggles me. I don't know if were asking to much or what the hold up is. I would of thought a bank/brokerage firm would of been all over it here in Boca with the amount of investable assets in this city.
