If we went through 11th grade at around the same time (I was in NC by this point), they mentioned the Spanish American War but detail was scarce.

Dan Carlin has me going out and seeking history whenever he comes out with a new podcast. The propaganda and beating of the drum leading up to the war would probably be a fascinating sight looking down from the Martian perspective.

It's hard for me to say when I learned the most about the Spanish-American War because I got a perfect grade for a history final thesis on if the Mexican-American War or the Spanish-American War was the larger example of one foe simply being less incompetent than the other.

For the record the Mexican-American War won because Mexico had home field advantage while Spain was fighting for already contested ground. In all of the wars in American history the only foe more incompetent than Mexico has been Iraq twice.
