RE: Coaches Poll
USF struggled at UMass. and Cincinnati struggled with Tulane. San Diego State should be ahead of them because them beat Boise State on the Blue Smurf Turf which is hard to do. Sadly, it seems the MWC is the better conference this year with 6 teams still in the hunt for the NY 6 bowl while AAC with 5. Memphis is on the edge of losing their 3rd game.

Nice to see UAB in Others Receiving Votes. Blazers playing solid football. UNT at Legion Field in a couple weeks should be a good one.

RE: Coaches Poll
the AAC has complete control of the G5 slot. If any of USF, Cincy, UCF, or Houston win- there isn't a damn thing that the MWC can do about it. Nothing.

Absolutely. Unless the AAC Champion has 3 losses, it’s signed, sealed, delivered.

RE: Coaches Poll
Well, Utah State and San Diego State are much better teams than USF and Cincinnati. Wisconsin is ranked after losing to BYU while Utah State's beat down of BYU was not enough for them to be ranked? Sorry, I can tell that the better teams are not ranked.

RE: Coaches Poll
The coaches poll should be ended. This is absurd. They just use the eyeball test and ignore the field results.
An unimpressive UW the top 1 loss team and ranked way ahead of 2 loss Auburn who beat them.
Wisconsin #10? Really???? After BYU's game this week????
Oklahoma still ahead of Texas-who have they beaten?
And while UK has 1 loss vs. A&M's two, they did lose to them and were dominated everywhere but the scoreboard-and A&M's losses were to two of the top 3 in Clemson and Alabama.
Why is Stanford still ranked?

Incorrect. UMass scored a lot of garbage time points against USF backups, including a TD with 15 seconds left in the game, making the score seem tighter than expected. USF was up like 48-21, and just coasted with backups in the 4th, with all 3 quarterbacks getting playing time. UMass scored 2 garbage TD's late.

I see you didn't actually watch the game, but just looked at a final score and made assumptions. USF RB Jordan Cronkrite had nearly 300 yards rushing at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Um no. UC had more yards rushing than Tulane had in rushing and passing combined.
Poor kick coverage was 1 glaring problem for UC that led to excellent field position for Tulane. Had some concerns about the game after seeing Tulane dominate Memphis last week.

And Illinois led Penn St in the 3Q and Indiana hung with Ohio St for a half. It’s irrelevant if the other team dominates the 2nd half and pulls away.

FWIW, literally every game is much closer in the first half. News flash, they all even start tied!

Oh, and if they ever start to reward teams for keeping it close in the first half, be sure to let us all know.

Would not say USF played like a top 30 team. They benefit from big plays, one particular no call and some costly mistakes by us. Then there was another when their receiver caught the ball, stepped while switching the ball to the other hand and we stripped and recovered the ball. Some how the review over turned it and have watched the replay.

Not sure if it was Isablle or some else that is a speedster had a brain fart and tackled the kicker and was ejected. He could of caught ya on some of the those big plays.

USF had a lot of big plays, but not a top 30 team. We played very well against USF until a minute less in the half with Young getting his bell run, several times including the targeting no call. Yes there were big swings, especially in the second half. USF is a good team and won, but they did not handle us very well. We hurt ourselves just as much as their second half play.

From the papers

Quote:By JOSH WALFISH
Staff Writer
Saturday, October 06, 2018
AMHERST – On Tuesday, UMass acting head coach Ed Pinkham warned of South Florida’s big-play capability on offense.

The Minutemen fell victim to those momentum-changing plays on Saturday at McGuirk Alumni Stadium. South Florida scored four touchdowns of 30 yards or more and added a special teams score as well in a 58-42 rout of the Minutemen.

Bulls running back Jordan Cronkite had a career day on the ground, running for a school-record 302 yards, most of which came on just four rushes. He busted through the UMass defense for a 66-yard rush that set up a USF field goal and then added rushing scores of 30, 76 and 77 yards. He is the first opponent to run for 300 yards against UMass since Georgia Southern’s Adrian Peterson in the 1999 FCS national quarterfinal game.

However, the game turned in the visitors’ favor late in the second quarter. After Cronkite’s 66-yard run, USF quarterback Blake Barnett seemed to have snuck in for a touchdown from a yard out. UMass (2-5) challenged the spot and Barnett was ruled to be down short of the goal line, spurring a goal-line stand that held USF to a field goal that left the Bulls trailing 14-13. On the ensuing kickoff, Vincent Davis stripped the ball from Marquis Young and set up a 19-yard Johnny Ford touchdown run that gave the Bulls (5-0) the lead for good.

In the middle of the third quarter, Davis and Young collided again on a kickoff return, this time Davis landed a helmet to Young’s chin, forcing the UMass senior to drop the ball and Davis scooped up the fumble for a score. Young was shaken up after the hit and was down on the field for almost five minutes before being helped to the bench.
...
The UMass offense had chances to extend its lead several times in the first half, but mistakes kept the Minutemen off the board. In the second quarter, the Minutemen drove to the USF 22 with a 14-10 lead, but Jaylen Larry sent a low snap skipping past Andrew Ford that the Bulls recovered. After forcing a punt, UMass was able to drive toward midfield before a holding penalty put the unit behind the chains and stalled the possession.

The unit sprung to life after Young’s injury, marching down the field for touchdowns on the three drives following the incident under the direction of Ross Comis. The senior quarterback ran for a 14-yard score, threw a 53-yard bomb to Andy Isabella and fitted a seven-yard throw to Travis Reynolds.
