DVR Beta now available on Roku. You'll need to re-sign in when its updated.

Different format. 20hrs are available for free and recordings last for 30 days.

RE: An Analysis of TV OTT Platforms
I have DirecTV Now with the $35 package. Right now I'm getting CBS SN. I don't know if it is a preview, or a mix up on their end, or they are moving to the lowest tier. However, their website stil show CBSSN at the $60 tier.

Anybody with the $35 tier getting them also?

This gets you virtually every English Language sports channel except NHL Network, BEIN, PAC 12 Network, and the Tennis Channel

$60/month - DirecTV Now Go Big - ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNNEWS, ESPNU, FS1, FS2, CBSSN, NBCSN, Golf Channel, Olympic Channel, TBS, TNT, TruTv, Big 10 Network, SEC Network, MLB Network, NBA Network, NHL Network, Tennis Channel, Sportsman Channel, TVG, Local ABC/NBC/CBS/FOX affiliate and RSN (if available)
Only an advantage over PS Vue Core w/ Sports Pack if you want NHL Network and Tennis channel instead of NFL Network and NFL Redzone

At $55-60 for an IPTV package its at the point where you want to cross compare it with traditional cable packages. Youtube and Hulu at the 40 dollar price point and all of the major sports networks have the price more realistic.

Comcast at $70 dollar offers its Digital Premier package (260+) with all of the premium movie channels for 12 months. With HD service, regional broadcast fee its more in the neighborhood of $90 all inclusive.

https://cabletvinternet.s9.com/xfinity-t...ages-.html

Where I think Comcast is somewhat lacking is in VOD compared to a Hulu or Netflix I've had all the movie channels but when you do you start to run into some duplication.

When you factor in a internet bundling discount, I would definitely take a traditional cable package into consideration around the $50/month price point

Cable for $50? All you get is shopping channels.

No, cable BUNDLE (TV + internet) is about the same as internet alone + $50 for IPTV.

This is BS in my experience. The extra fees, taxes, and equipment rental make it impossible for cable TV+Internet to match Internet+IPTV.

RE: An Analysis of TV OTT Platforms
Comcast has released a new product called Instant TV. No HD box required which does save on the power bill. The IPTV requires a way to get it on your Television. Screen mirroring, Roku type devices or smart TV is required.

http://fivedollarshake.net/comcasts-new-...-worth-it/

The intro price is 39.99 for 12 months for IPTV and Internet then it balloons to 61.95 for the performance internet plus 10.00 base price for the internet TV (71.95). Free HD service. Expect equipment and taxes to run about another 30 dollars.

Then its possible to add skinny bundles. The base package only includes 10 channels but add-ons are possible.

Kids and Family pack $10.00-Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, Freeform, National Geographic, nickelodeon, sprout, TLC, Hallmark, Inspiration channel

Entertainment $15.00-A&E, AMC, Animal Planet, BET, Bravo, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel, E!, Food Network, FX, HGTV, History, Lifetime, OWN, SYFY, TBS, TNT, TV One, USA, VH-1, Hallmark Movie and mysteries, LMN, Movie Plex

Sports & News $35.00-CNBC, CNN, ESPN, ESPN2, Fox Business, Fox News, FS1, NBC Golf, MSNBC, NBC-SN, NFL Network, Regional Sports Network.

Premium Channels:

HBO $15.00-This is the standard rate.
Starz $12.00-Also at the standard rate.
Streampix $4.99 more a month

The best thing about this offering is they give you in the packages some channels that you might have to go up to their $70 dollar double play normally to get in their entertainment pack.

Sports and News at $35 dollars and no ESPNU or CBS Sports Net is real limited. Total package cost with the base plus Sports & News is $75 a month. At that price might as well just go for the $79.99 Standard 125+ cable package which includes everything in the sports and news plus kids and entertainment.

The real price to add HBO just by itself is $33 dollars. $10 dollars for the IPTV, $8 dollars for the broadcast fee and $15 for HBO. Add the modem rental in for another $11 so its $74 dollars for stand alone HBO and basic internet.

A cheaper way to get HBO is to use Comcast for internet and go through Hulu.

Internet-29.99 for 60 mpbs
Modem- 11.00
Hulu no adds- 11.99
HBO -5.99 for 6 months

$59 dollars maybe about $65 with taxes. Going through Comcast its close to $80 dollars.

For another $30 dollars you get a sports package through Hulu with ESPNU and CBS Sports Net.

Pluto TV just added more channels including Fox Sports. The subscription is free to use, and they pay for broadcast rights by playing advertisement videos in between programming. They also have signed broadcast rights with HULU programming as well.

Fox seems to jump on board with this idea, but ESPN have not. Pluto have over 6 million users.

Fox is already available for free (well, quite a bit of it). ESPN is not.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but this isn’t the same Fox Sports as cable. No sports are shown, only the talk shows.

Must be ESPN or the AAC Network I see list that caused the price increase for no additional channels I see.
I've updated the OP.

Thanks for helping!

DirecTV Now is raising all packages by $5 and will now be in line with the $40 price point that all companies have for their lower level or solo programming packages. The only exception is Sling who will allow you to get either Sling Orange or Sling Blue for $25. Combining them will still be $40.

When is that happening? Still shows $35 on the website.

Is there a way to sign up and get grandfathered in, or is everyone getting their price raised regardless?

Nope from what I can gather its everyone.

They did give you a DVR though so you can look at it as a mandatory DVR fee

Seems like that is the case. However, the DVR option isn't available on all channels so it's not like it's worth it to me.

I'll update the pricing when it gets officially rolled in. Let me know in case I forget.

Also of note: There are a couple of other platforms the could be up and running soon.
T-Mobile TV (will for all people, not just T-Mobile customers).

Also, Ting TV which is a no-contract phone carrier and internet fiber provider, however that will only be available to those who have Ting Internet service.

Never pay for the modem. You can get one cheap off Amazon. Really cheap if you don't mind used. $11 a month is a rip-off.

RE: An Analysis of TV OTT Platforms
T-Mobile's 5G service at the 600 MHz frequency that can penetrate buildings has started carrier aggregation with a limited number of phones which can pick up the signal.

They have a deal which is 2 lines of 50GB data for $120 plus a netflix subscription thrown in. It might be possible to replace home internet service with it. Do a 2 for 1 deal with an S9 and a LG V30 which has a great battery as a hotspot phone.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/save-much...45276.html

Quote:Included in today's announcement are some details on T-Mobile's upcoming 600MHz plans. Starting this month, T-Mobile will begin enabling carrier aggregation for 600MHz LTE and mid-band LTE, which will allow customers with capable devices to access the capacity of both at the same time and get faster download speeds. T-Mobile also says that it plans to start deploying 600MHz Extended Range LTE in Puerto Rico this fall.

T-Mobile spent nearly $8 billion on 600MHz licenses in an FCC spectrum auction last year, and lately it's been aggressively deploying the coverage across the country. It's easy to understand why, because the 600MHz LTE signal reaches twice as far as T-Mobile's mid-band LTE and is also four times better at penetrating buildings.

In order to access T-Mobile's 600MHz LTE coverage, you'll need a compatible device. T-Mobile currently sells six devices 600MHz devices — the Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+, Galaxy S8 Active, LG G7 ThinQ, LG V30, and LG K30 — and T-Mo says that more than 12 additional 600MHz devices will launch in 2018.

This could complement the T-Mo TV that is rolling out at the end of the year.
