In a statement, the coalition said its aircraft "conducted a show of force" to turn back an attack by Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad's forces on the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the town of Ja'Din, south of Tabqah.

The coalition confirmed that a U.S. Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet shot down a Syrian Su-22 that had dropped bombs near SDF positions. The coalition said the shootdown took place "in accordance with rules of engagement and in collective self-defense of Coalition partnered forces."

The statement said "a number of SDF fighters" were wounded in the regime's attack, but did not specify further. The coalition also said that Russian officers had been contacted on a special "de-confliction" hotline in an effort to halt the regime's attack.

Can someone explain how this makes the situation over there any better. I'd imagine they are laughing. Especially since we are over there for no reason and we don't know who the hell were fighting.

1) They are avoiding extermination by ISIS.
2) Arabs get to go home and get weapons to fight Assad.
3) Kurds get control over their land and the possibility of autonomy or more.

Certainly no one over there is clean. I guess at the end of the day we should be opposing whomever Russia supports. I mean that's the way it has always been right?

We warned them we would do it and they didn't listen. Guess they didn't expect us to actually follow up. Times have changed I guess.

Russia is pretty pissed evidently. Sure do need some of those "cool heads" to talk things out.

As for Russia being mad....second time we've had to slap thier sock puppet down over there. What you bet they don't bomb US backed forces again. Putin responds to one thing and one thing only--strength.

The Syrians really don't have that many operational planes. They've been relying heavily on the Russians.

Since Russia's goals are absolutely opposed to America's, it's a valid conclusion. Russia, and China, are probably the only two nations that pose an existential threat to America, and have an inconsistent ideological base.

Russia now treating any coalition flying objects west of the Euphrates as "targets".
