It is hard to evaluate this statement without knowing what thoughts he was referring to.
I will say one thing that I have noticed over many years. That is, that some participants (players, coaches, water boys) think that they know everything and that everybody else who is not a player or coach knows nothing. In fact, I have found that most die-hard fans know more about any sport than a lot of the players do (who simply play but do not live and die for it like many fans do).
Perhaps Armstrong should catch more than one ball in a big game before knocking any fans.
If you look at his tweets it appears the comments were more about what fans were saying about Will Grier from WV last night and have nothing to do with WM fans.
It was nice of you to give him the benefit of the doubt to start your post, but it evidently didn't mean much considering the way you ended it. At least his name is attached to his comment, unlike all of us on this message board.
At times, things being said on this board about players and coaches are just wrong they are naive and uninformed, or they are filled with personal bias. I'm not a fan of message boards where comments that are made about specific players, especially negative comments. People want to go after coaches, fine. Don't agree with that either. This thread is filled with both.
I would agree with him. Fans, without knowing everything going on in a program or with a player, sometimes say things that are naive. It's especially easy to say things like that on social media.
I find myself at times watching games, saying things to people I'm with, only to find out later why plays were called, why some players are used and some aren't. I do that at times because as much as I know about the sport (played D1, coached every level) I still don't know about personnel. Players do know more about their program and personnel than any fan ever will.
