It's sad, when a team you went 8-2 against (Syracuse), and routed on many, many occasions was picked up for the ACC and yours wasn't. Yeah, I know, basketball and ancient football history and everything.
Explain why BC is in the ACC again? Were they a warm body from the Big East when the ACC was grabbing teams or what.
How the heck did Rutgers get into the Big 10 again? Just how?
Being 7-2 vs USF really impressed Jim Delany.
And we went 8-2 vs. Syracuse, and played even series with Louisville and West Virginia. Your point is? I say again, what did Rutgers do to earn a Big 12 invite? (other than be located near a major metro area).
Let's be clear, we are in the BIG 10. The B12 is one of the P5 conferences USF was hoping to get into.
On the sports side:
1, New Jersey is a high population state - about 7.5m. That translated into a big payday for the BTN when RU was invited.
2, NJ is a high revenue state. Our average household income translates into higher buying power, which translates to higher advertising dollars.
3, There are a ton of high earning alumni of other B10 schools living here, who wanted to see conference games without having to travel.
4, Wrestling is a sport that the B10 cares about. We have it and our team has been on an upward trend for the better part of a decade.
5, We also have lacrosse. Which allowed the B10 to sponsor the sport and helps drive live event programing for the BTN.
6, Our facilities are lacking, but we were already in the early stages of major fundraisers to address that.
7, RU is the birthplace of college football. A status that the B10 wanted in the fold.
On the academic side: The B10 cares about academics.
1, 50,000 students and a 250,000+ living alumni base.
2, AAU status.
3, High rankings on all best colleges lists.
4, Huge research budgets.
5, Solid peer reputations.
6, Was in the process of reabsorbing UMDNJ back into RU. That move gave us two medical schools, two teaching hospitals, the state's only dental school and a freestanding cancer institute.
7, #6 only boosted #'s 1-5.
8, We are one of the original 10 Colonial Colleges, 1 of only 2 not in the IVY and the only one with FBS status. The B10 wanted that in the fold.
