It's all just speculation at this point. You are spot on about his coaching style. Very easy to put an offense together for the twin towers. I expect a much different approach on both ends of the court this season.

There is no real evidence that we are involved with Niv and it's not even a position of need, but I love this kids game. I'm sure the coaches have a class balancing plan with the 2 available scholarships and aren't looking for more 4 year guards, but I would 100% pull the trigger on him. Im sure there are some suitors out there, but he seems under the radar & I don't see schools really involved with him. IMO, he is a steal, possible day 1 starter, and nice compliment to our other guards.
Make me happy Coach Howland and get this kid.

Rozenholtz commits to Texas A&M Commerce.

Shows my lack of recruiting eye. I still think Rozenholtz would be a stud at the mid major D1 level.

Wound up going D2.

Took a quick look at all of the remaining 2020 bigs that we have had any contact with. All, save Johnny Vrdoljak, are undecided. Vrdoljak committed to Western University (Canada)

RE: 2020 MBB Recruiting
Interesting that Jake's mom referenced him as 6'6" in a tweet this week. Always a positive that an incoming freshman is still growing. Going back and looking at Jake's junior year highlights, if he is able to come in and compete with no hesitation/limits from his knee injury, I think we may see him in the starting lineup right out of the gate. Shows the skills to score at all levels more than anyone else we have, and a solid defender. Plus, the rehab and training he appears to have put in may make him more physically ready than most freshmen. Reminds me a little of Delaware's Nate Darling. I recall after his official visit, there appeared to be a heightened level of enthusiasm among Tribe players around his recruitment and decision which told me they saw something that weekend which caused that reaction.

RE: 2020 MBB Recruiting
See that 6'10 250 lb center Nigel John has started following Boatner and Kemp. Neither has followed back yet. John, out of the Dallas area, was home schooled, and originally signed with Washington St. in 2019 before getting his release after a coaching change. He reclassified, signed with Utah St back in Nov, then decommitted last week. Utah State was loaded with bigs. Possible Milkereit connection, or incoming football TE, Colton Turner, who was, also, home schooled out of the Dallas area?

I hope the coaches are interested and he qualifies. John is a rare breed in the mid major level--a freshman big with true size. He is not the 190-205 lb big we normally recruit. He is a muscular 250lbs and appears to welcome physicality. I know nothing about his HS competition, but he oozes potential. He stands a good chance of playing early and can envision him being a fairly dominant CAA big by his senior year.

Yeah, this is the type, unheralded, player we need to take a chance on. We have two scholarships to, potentially, use. I see nothing but upside here. The coaching staff has been very quiet of late.

2020 MBB Recruiting
I know being homeschooled might make transcripts a bit tougher to wade through, but, if he is a good academic/personality fit, the approval process shouldn't be too much of a hurdle.

Utah St got a commit from a highly touted Euro big which triggered the John decommit. Handled correctly, he would be an under the radar steal for this class.

I find it interesting that he is followed by a ton of Midwestern coaches, both mid and high, but no W&M coaches. Yet, he followed coaches Kemp and Boatner. Seems odd, unless they are talking beyond social media.

My only concern would be that he's de-committed from 2 schools already... Doesn't seem like much to lose by offering him, but I'd be worried he'd transfer out after a year or two

I wouldn't hold the decommits against him. His 1st, Washington state, had a coaching change. Number 2, Utah St, recruited over him in his own class.

This is the current state of college Basketball. You can't worry about kids transferring out. It's happening everywhere.
IMO, you have to handle it on a year to year basis. You recruit and bring in the best talent you can that fit what you are doing. Add to your roster and fill in the holes. I don't think there is any higher chance of John leaving than Covington, Milkereit, or Kochera.

Also, there is just a gaping hole in the roster, when it comes to size.
I do imagine that any lack of response by the staff is due to getting a better hold on how his home schooling affects his academic status.

Fair enough, yeah I don't know the circumstances at each school so I shouldn't judge. And as I said, nothing to lose by offering, we don't have a ton of great options on the table right now.

What am I missing here? A HM decommit with no kidding size is following us?? I mean if he only wants to stick around for a year and then transfer I'd take that in a heartbeat.

I think it would be crazy if he didn't have the academic requirements. He was signed class of 2019 and 2020, so I can't imagine he didn't complete his course work required over 2 senior years. He should be an SAT qualifier, even though they are optional now. Translating homeschooling to college level transcripts could be a pain I'd imagine, though it isn't really a new phenomenon.

W&M Admissions is expert at evaluating homeschool, nontraditional school, American/UK foreign country school, and international student portfolios. They do this all the time.

One of my roommates at the College was homeschooled in the Republic of Ireland and two others were children of Foreign Service Officers primarily educated in English schools in Saudi Arabia and Austria. It's not a big deal at all.

I think that everything that our coaches need to say to Nigel John to reassure him that W&M is a great place for him to blossom both athletically and academically can be summed up in two words....Nathan Knight.
