2017 Rutgers Prediction Thread
Last year I predicted 3 wins and that ended up being too many! Lets try again

L - 9/1 - vs Washington
W - 9/9 - vs Eastern Michigan
W - 9/16 - vs Morgan St.

L - 9/23 - @ Nebraska
L - 9/30 - vs Ohio State
L - 10/14 - @ Illinois

W - 10/21 - vs Purdue (Homecoming)
L - 10/28 - @ Michigan
L - 11/4 - vs. Maryland (@ Yankee Stadium)
L - 11/11 - @ Penn State
L - 11/18 - @ Indiana
L - 11/25 - vs. Michigan State

This year is about progress, but I don't think Rutgers will get more than 4 wins. I hope I'm wrong. With the exception of Ohio State, though, I think Rutgers can hang with these teams much better than last year. I think they can beat the 27 point spread vs UW.

Main concerns I have is about depth as injuries start to mount and the first lines will need rest. I think Rutgers will keep it close in most games and then just run out of steam in the 2nd half. Mostly upper classmen in the 2 deep, I believe, except WR. All of the transfers were pluses for Rutgers. We should see a much better offense with Bolin, Edwards, Grant, and the young WR's.

The schedule is just too tough this year, but I think this team is really set up well to get back to at least 6 or 7 games in 2018.

As with other years, I'll update as the season moves along. Let's hear your prediction!

Even though the game is @ Illinois, it is winnable for y'all. Having watched some of the games last night (vs Washington), I was impressed with how well Rutgers did. This team isn't just going to roll over. They will be in games with Maryland and maybe Michigan State with a chance to win. We shall see what Indiana does. They look to be pretty good (1st half vs Ohio State). Rutgers can go bowling if things fall right but 4 wins isn't outrageous (I have my Terps at 4 wins). Wish y'all the best of luck this season.

EMU fan here, how are you doing in NJ?

I'm expecting a very competitive game with EMU pulling out a last minute upset if we can stop your run game.

What do you think of your QB?

Hey Luckeyone! Welcome!

I think Kyle Bolin is RU's best chance to win at the moment and can be a good game manager. Bolin is a grad transfer from Louisville, and was the started until Lamar Jackson arrived. The knock on him is arm strength, apparently, and whether he can open up the field. You never got the sense that he would provide any deep threat vs. Washington but you could also blame that on our WR's, UW's coverage, etc.

I liked what I saw from him and the rest of the offense in the first half of last week's game. He did make a few mistakes that turned out to be INT's. After what RU had at QB last year, I'm happy, but the fan base will be clamoring for the future sooner rather than later every time an L comes along.

Rutgers has a true freshman QB named Jonathan Lewis. I thought they were going to try to keep his redshirt, but It sounds like they plan to use him for specific plays that they haven't unveiled yet. I'm guessing option-type plays. Some consider him the "QB of the future". There's a decent chance you'll see him on Saturday.

Good luck on Saturday. I'll be tailgating there as usual. I expect it to be a competitive game as well. Too many RU fans are overlooking EMU. I do think RU will pull it out. I think the line is around RU-5 right now. I'm not sure I'd take that bet.

Though I wouldn't be shocked if we lose to Maryland and beat either Nebraska or MSU.

5-7 or 6-6

L 30-14 - 9/1 - vs Washington
L 16-13 - 9/9 - vs Eastern Michigan

I dropped us to only one win for the remainder of the season. I don't think I'm overreacting either. I have major concerns about the defensive secondary and the inability of the offense to stretch the field. I still don't think we will see any massive blowouts vs last year, but every game is going to be a challenge to pull out a W. Depth and playmaking dynamics seem to be at least a season away. I hope last week was just a hiccup and maybe I will see enough to flip Purdue and/or Illinois to a win again. No way this team gets more than 4 wins and it will be really tough to get more than 2.
