Ozark on netflix. The series has a Breaking Bad feel to it. One season so far and I am half way through that first season. It is very interesting. Some a lot of points to build the plot from. Best thing I have seen in a while.

Indeed. And Ozark isn't great. It's okay. We stopped watching about 9 episodes in.

So, you stopped one episode from the season finale? Did it really take nine for you to figure out maybe it wasn't for you?

I've watched the whole first season. Like you with Ozarks, I bailed on Breaking Bad but did so during the third episode. I just couldn't get behind it and knew it wasn't going to be for me.

Working terrorism and transnational criminal org issues over the past decade of my career, I really have a hard time with the glorification of criminals these programs show. While there is some reality to what they depict they aren't documentaries. Instead they glamorize violence, criminals and various illicit activities.

I was able to stick with Ozarks though just because I'm somewhat intrigued by what most people would find the most boring part of the show and that's the money laundering angle. The family angle is interesting as well and then how Bateman's character is able to pull stuff out of his ass to save face for anther day. It will be interesting to see how he is able or if he is able to keep doing that. There certainly seems to be a more cerebral context to Ozarks than Breaking Bad.

I thought that show was outstanding. I didn’t watch it when it first came out and then saw one episode and went back and caught them all on demand. Nice suggestion amigo.

Excellent show, Bateman is a one man show basically.

I kept waiting for Jason Bateman (Marty Byrde) to call his son George Michael. Lol. Never happened.

I liked this show. But I think Jason Bateman is great too. He basically plays himself in everything, though he’s a bit darker in this by necessity of the character. I’ve watched him in interviews and his wit is quick and cutting.

Good observation. Anyone else cast in that role and the show might not be as good.

Yup. The biggest shocker I had was that the actor playing Boz was only 50 years old. I thought he was waaay older than that.

I really like Ozark as well (and appreciated that they made the show fairly compelling from the get go rather than the way Breaking Bad slow walks the plot).

Yeah, he's the goofball electrician in Down Periscope. Nice to see him stretch his dramatic legs a little. Was a good show, but ended a little abruptly and they never really hit their homerun. They were always just on the verge. Been nice to see them go out with a real bang like google or twitter or something like that in their world. I hadn't thought about Netscape in many years and when they mentioned that it just all came flooding back. Cool show.

Yeah the slow walking was a problem for me with Breaking Bad but then I binged it over the course of a year and hot into it. It's better than Better Call Saul, which walks even slower. Then again, I love Mad Men and it doesn't get any slower than a midcentury American melodrama 03-yawn

I too had a problem with Breaking Bad in that production of drugs that definitely destroyed lives was being somewhat glorified. I quit watching in the first season for that reason and the fact that all of the first season was a real downer with the exception of the last episode. Then friends raved about it so much that I watched past the first season while the wife was out of town and got hooked. I still had reservations about what these people were doing but the writing and how they molded the story really was extraordinary. It took a concerted effort to get through the first season and a little bit more convincing my wife that it got better. She became hooked too.

I really like Better Call Saul. The characters and their development is very interesting.

I love Better Call Saul. Slippin’ Jimmy is my guy. As much as I like Jimmy I really like the character of Mike Ehrmantraut more. I could look in Kim Wexler’s wide set eyes all day long. It’s a really good show. Moves slow at times. Michael McKean as Chuck blows me away and makes it hard for me to remember him as Lenny from LaVerne and Shirley. Same guy though.

Anyhoo, as much as I love the show it causes me angst at Jimmy’ antics. There’s a German word that describes Jimmy better than any English word I could come up with.

Quote: Have you ever watched someone make a fool of themselves, only to find yourself cringing in embarrassment for them? Then you’ve most likely experienced fremdschämen.

This German word is made up of two parts, with fremd meaning “foreign” and schämen meaning “to be embarrassed.” The term is typically used to describe someone who feels embarrassment on behalf of someone else. The corresponding noun for this feeling is Fremdscham.

Jimmy has brought such fremdschämen on me that I’ve had to fast forward through some exchanges as they made me so uncomfortable for him. Lol.

There’s a new season of W1A on Netflix.

I love British shows. The quips are lightning quick and you sometimes have to pause it to make sure you just heard what you thought you heard. Funny as hell. I’m sure some of it flies right over my head but I love it.

British shows are hit an miss with me. I'll usually watch about 10 minutes just to tell if I will be able to understand enough dialogue to follow the plot. For more than half of the shows the answer is no. lol...For me, many of the British shows may as well be in Spanish.

Might wanna steer clear of this one then. It reminds me a little of 30 Rock since it’s about a tv network, the BBC, but the quips come so rapid fire it’s as if everyone is on meth. It’s a pretty good comedy imo.

I also liked Ozark. It was slow at times but the last 2 episodes were on the edge of your seat thrilling good. And ironically watching that has forced me to finally start watching Breaking Bad which was long overdue.

I just have Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime so my viewing options are a bit limited but my all-time favorites on those channels are The Handmaid's Tale and The Crown, and I can't wait for seasons 2 of both.

BTW one similarity between Ozark and Breaking Bad might be how poorly the wife is portrayed in both (Laura Linney and Anna Gunn). I'm not sure how I feel about both. But I loved the Julia Garner character in Ozark - she deserves her own spin off series.

Not really, we just stuck with it for a while because we didn't see anything else worth watching.

Honestly, the wife on that show is such an unlikable character that she alone could've made me stop watching it.

Made me think of Breaking Bad. The wife and son where such whiny/unlikable characters that I couldn't finish the show w/o fast forwarding through their scenes.

Ozark on netflix. The series has a Breaking Bad feel to it. One season so far and I am half way through that first season. It is very interesting. Some a lot of points to build the plot from. Best thing I have seen in a while.

Hope you enjoy!

The Handmaid's Tale is great. I was skeptical at first bc it was something the wife suggested but after we started it I was hooked.

I also really like Peaky Blinders on Netflix. Hopefully the next season will be coming soon.

Anyone watching "Big Mouth" on Netflix? If you're a fan of Family guy I highly recommend.

Lol.

Yep! Always looking for Squiggy to come bustin down the door saying "Hello!" Mike is everybody's favorite. The guy is the rock solid guy you can always trust as long as you are the up and up.
