Jeez. Panic much? This was Rice's second game of the season. There is always significant improvement between week #1 and week #2 as teams discover and then work to correct system flaws. Rice will win more than one game this year. Houston looked much better after just a half of play. Im a little concerned about our secondary---but I think there is a lot of talent back there---they just need to get on the same page (and a blitz or two to pressure the QB would be nice)...04-cheers

On a positive note----Once again the Coog fans dominated the Owls turning this into a defacto Coog home game.

Time to bump this. He can’t coach, refuses to fire a bad defensive coordinator, and now will lose another big game that we should have won.

I think it’s safe to say applewhite’s officially on the hot seat.

Going into next year, he could be on the hot seat depending on how the rest of this season plays out.

But he will not be fired this year.

UH is 7-2....Texas wouldn't fire their coach at 7-2. When did UH get so high and mighty?

Look at his overall resume. He’s lost both the bowl games to San Diego and Fresno.

He’s lost to Tulane, Tulsa, Smu, and our games vs tech twice.

He has no significant win vs anyone aside from USF and both years no one really knows how good USF was, last years USF was better and he didn’t really win that game, our QB kind of improvised and caught USF off guard.

In the last 2 years we have gone from someone you don’t want to play to someone you can move the ball on at will.

The only reason UH has had a decent season is because of our play makers which coaching didn’t have an impact on. The game plan last night alone is enough to fire him but when you combine it with all that he shouldn’t be in charge of this program.

Next year UH will start 1-3 with the only win from an FCS.

We will get blown out by UNT, OU, and WSU and be a shell of a team. Bad for everyone involved if we don’t make a course correction.

I dont think D'onofrio will be around next season---and lets be honest here---thats the real problem.

We are the 10th worst defense in FBS and are giving up 32 points a game. No FBS team this year has given up more than 27 points to SMU in 4 quarters of play this year. D'onofrio's defense gave up friggin 45 points. Thats MORE than 2 touchdowns and a field goal WORSE than any other FBS defense this year.

As I said, we have the 10th worst defesne in all of FBS---I just dont think we have the 10th worst defensive talent in FBS---so its definitely a coaching issue. If D'onofrio is still around after January of 2019, I'll be concerned---but Im pretty sure he's a goner after this season. 04-cheers

The admin has already said he is gone if he doesn't win 9 games. There is a very real chance we don't win any of our remaining games with how bad the defense is.

So all in all i could definitely see him gone at the end of the season.

This is a great breakdown of the situation. Applewhite simply does not have the ability or fire that a good coach has. He has proven to be unable to male halftime adjustments, and the only reason we did so well this year is because briles was able to pull applewhites butt out of the fire.

Its even worse when you consider we are on pace to have the worst defense in UH history. The defense under sumlin seems like alabama's now.

It also really pisses me off that we wasted the beast player in UH history all because our idiot head coach refused to fire a clearly terrible defensive coordinator.
