Heck no, would you hire a high level exec. who bailed on your company at a critical moment and left you holding the bag?

No but we expect to be competitive and win against bad teams. Not struggle and barely scrap by bad teams or get blown out by terrible teams.

To be fair, it happens at least once a year. UTSA, UConn, SMU, Texas State, Vanderbilt etc...
Let's just see how the year plays out, Houston could still be in the Access Bowl if it wins out

"9+"?!!
We're 4-2 with 5 to go, and I can't see us winning 7. Our D is solid, but our offense is utterly pathetic.
You clearly didnt understand that post.

Pretty sure I understood it perfectly. Dude is implying that we're being unreasonable. Trust me - we aren't. I've seen this movie before.
Our remaining schedule: Memphis, @ USF, ECU, @ Tulane, Navy. Nine wins is out of the question. Given how bad our offense has been, seven seems unlikely. Six or fewer wins should be grounds for dismissal, but Applewhite's contract makes that all but impossible.
No way on earth Houston loses to ECU or Tulane.. So bowl game is a lock and Major " ***** Hound" Applewhite will return.
The same Tulane team that routed Tulsa by 34? Transitive logic is idiotic but that's a 62 point swing in Tulane's favor.

If Houston wins out, it will mean 3 wins against teams that are currently ranked. It will mean no other AAC team can be picked over them. Short of Troy winning out, the Sun Belt has zero contenders. Marshall could be a factor but they have no quality wins and no chance for one. San Diego State is still obviously a factor but they are a fraud. Any team in the MWC that wants to be taken seriously has to win out. Toledo has an outside shot but they have to win out.
Therefore, Houston doesn't control its destiny but has an excellent shot should it win out, especially if Boise and SDSU fail to win the MWC with fewer than three losses. Not that it's gonna happen for UH.

Lol. This team isn’t going to an access bowl....Given an offense that struggles to reach 20 points and an inability to stop the run—getting 2 more wins vs Memphis, USF, Tulane, Navy, and ECU isn’t a given. Applewhite has installed an offense with about 6 total plays. Zero creativity. Haven’t seen an offense this bland since Kim Helton.
This offseason will see the OC canned—-not that it will make much difference. Applewhite will need to modify his approach or he won’t last another year. If we could recruit a 5-star road grading offensive line to make his Bama offense work—-Kim Helton would still be here. He tried to do that for 7 seasons. It was a dismal failure then....and nothing has changed.

RE: ***The Official Fire Major Applewhite Thread****
Briles - 5 seasons
Sumlin - 4 seasons
Levin - 3 seasons
Herman - 2 seasons
Applewhite - 1 season
Next Poor SOB: 6 games :)
When you hire a guy who has never been a head coach before, there is going to be a learning curve. Most of the time when someone takes over, there is a curve to get their program in place, unless they inherited something special to start with. Briles went 10-14 in the first 2 years - FIRE HIM. After inheriting a solid program Sumlin went 5-7 in year 3 (first year with his players) - FIRE HIM! There are of course instances in which the coaching decisions or behavior is so out of whack that the guy clearly has to go - but year one is a tall bar.
What I saw Saturday was a Houston team that didn't have the speed or QB skill I've grown used to seeing at Houston over the last decade - that isn't gross coaching incompetence (though I admit to watching exactly 1 Houston game all year and not following your recruiting at all).
Ignoring the general absurdity of firing a coach in year 1 - isn't there like 6,000,000 reasons why the guy won't be fired this year? Really, do you think the odds of him getting fired are greater than 10% at this point? Someone would have to step up with a serious check to buy him out and enough left over to convince someone else they want to deal with a fan base that will try to fire you if you don't win 8, 9 or 10 games in year one.
Plus, we have our own issues... is Tulsa's defense really improved that much from one week to the next, or do we still need to fire our defensive coordinator?
