I think 3-8 is crazy-hard to predict. Could really come down to in-conference schedule strength and who is injured when, with the teams that finish in the upper half of that pile dancing, and the teams in the lower half of that pile very sad. This poll has UConn a little higher than I would pick them. I think they are the big wildcard in that middle group. High ceiling/low floor depending on how quickly things come together for them.
Kevin Ollie has to show some coaching ability before I put that team that high. Tulsa's additions seem to have really been to our benefit. We're going to be pretty light in post depth after our best defensive bigman chose to return to Australia to turn Pro, but if we can keep our bigs out of foul trouble we should have the shooting depth this year to really take it to some teams offensively and in the defensive back court.
So you won't put UCONN that high based on Ollie's coaching ability, but you will place Tulsa that high based on Haith's coaching ability?
There's no way I would place Haith high on the in-game coaching totem pole. But I would certainly place him above Ollie.
I think you'll find very few non-Tulsa fans that agree with you there.

Yea. Pretty much.
Uh no. Last year's class was the first Top 10 class since 2009. And 3 members of that 5 man class suffered season ending injuries by the 3rd game of the season (in addition to highly touted transfer Terry Larrier).
Facts are your friends.

Agreed. From an outsiders perspective, I think he is more of an enigma than a proven good or proven bad, coach.

I think it has more to do with the fact that he's done about the same as Tulsa since his championship with more recruiting talent than Tulsa has ever had. How many 4 or 5 star players have been on Ollie's teams and what has he done with all that talent? Since the Championship run with Calhoun's players, he's reached one NCAA tournament.

Yet Ollie's the one underachieving in this league...
Tulsa has certainly been in contention in the league at just about the same rate as UConn, and Tulsa has done it with 2 and 3 star players vs. UConn's 4 and 5 stars.

I don't mean to break up a pissing contest, but I should have added that I think the Shockers will be left standing (in first place) at the end of the year.
However, I don't take us being picked 2nd as a slight even though all the other predictors say the Shockers will be the top team pre-season. Rather, being picked second comes with the territory when moving into a new league. Cincy has proven they are a very good team too, and there will be very good competition from a number of teams. As I have said before, this league is going to be fun.

I will be very happy as soon as Gary Clark is out of eligibility. He is a beast. I can’t wait for Cincy to visit Moody. I’m looking forward to that game along with the USC game the most.

I think injury concerns (right or wrong) is the reason for being picked behind Cincy.

Like I said, thanks for the motivation. Marshall will make this conference pay. I predict he will be liked about as much in the AAC as he was in the MVC, Big South, etc... RE: 2017-2018 AAC Basketball Media Days (with Preseason Coaches Poll / Awards)
The polls and All-Conference teams are perfectly reasonable, at least when it comes to Wichita State. That doesn't mean it won't be used by Gregg Marshall all season long and Markis McDuffie especially will hear about how he wasn't picked all-conference in many practices throughout the season.
As mentioned, the MVC accolades were such a joke that it was probably to the point where it was getting hard to get the players to take them seriously. I guarantee the players are taking these AAC results seriously.

For the record, Cincinnati has a few top 10s as well and mainly in the mid teens. UC is always disrespected in the preseason polls and rarely seem to get ranked and then wind up in the top 20 when the season ends.
WSU is a very good team, but I do think you will feel the pinch of the new conference. There are a lot of teams that are in the middle or bottom half that will have the talent or scheme to beat anyone, so you can't have a day off and UC and WSU will get everyone's best shot. Good luck and I do think it will be a heck of a battle for the title (And don't sleep on UCF).
Nothing against Cincy. Wichita State was ranked #1 in the country by ESPN.
I'm wondering now if Marshall paid to have a few votes thrown Cincy's way. He's notorious for trying to control optimism in the locker room. Being picked #2 in THIS league smacks of manipulation - manipulation that is totally in our favor BTW. It just looks silly to the national media. Right now they're like:

CBS

And I'm quite thankful for that "upset". I used it for everything it was worth against K|Uck City.
The reality is, Wichita State and Gregg Marshall are a proven commodity at this point - you know what you're gonna get every year. And what you're gonna get is a mountain of wins. We win the games we are expected to and the ones we lose are always by a gnat's ass. We WILL be competing for the conference championship, that is a given. Cincy is the #1 challenger, but make no mistake, they are the challenger. According to 100% of the national pundits, the AAC conference trophy is ours to take until proven otherwise. In fact, they're working on the engraving right now.
I'd also like to take this moment to apologize to SMU for how they've been so rudely removed from the conversation. Sorry SMU, you've made some hay while the sun shined; i.e. before the NCAA knocked on your door, but the Shockers are here now and the conference isn't the same sandbox you remember as a kid. I suspect you should be mentioned in the same sentence as Cincy since after all, you are the defending champions the last two years, but your coach sucks.
Speaking of sucky coaches... I can assure you Jank and Co. didn't cast their vote for the Shockers. I know this because Jank is Marshall's b!tch. Illinois State coaches are renown for casting animosity votes... the little people that they are.

Let’s be real though. UConn was down because of injuries, they out talent 4-8 by a good margin and if they start geling they can really compete. Houston has rob gray and a really good offense, temple has 4 Star talent all over and plenty more talent than tulsa on paper, but was young last year and UCF has bj Taylor, Tacko Fall, aj Davis and Aubrey Dawkins.
Tulsa finishing 5th would mean they over achieved by a large margin. They just don’t have the fire power in my opinion to climb the ranks in this league. I think they will be tough to beat at home just can’t picture them stealing many away game wins from the teams ranked above them
We had 8 new players last year I dont know how much younger you can be. Recruiting rankings are bs, thats why we play the games. I also expect 4-8 to be crazy, but 5th or 6th sounds about right for tulsa. I expect we will be a bubble team.
