The announcers said the team was fighting sickness. I believe 3 starters were sick so I’ll give them a pass lol.

RE: 2017-2018 Basketball Season
A few thoughts.....

1) Every win is a good win.
2) It was great to pick up a win @ Winthrop after over a decade plus of losing.
3) Feels good to finally knock off Winthrop.
4) This win makes up for the unexplainable GW loss.
5) So, here’s the critical side of me..... This isn’t a great Winthrop team. They have a losing record in conference and overall.

I think this Winthrop team is much better than their record. Cooks is arguably the top player in the conference. They will bounce back and have a decent year.

Yes Cooks is pretty awesome and has been each season he’s played. He’s a super talented kid.

I know Winthrop could still turn out to be competitive. I’m just using them as a “Baylor” example. What we once thought was a huge upset turned into a good win over a terrible FBS team. Just being cautionary and letting things play out through the season.

Well... that just happened.
What in the world is going on?
That was just a horrible game. What is up with this team? It’s pretty much inexcusable to lose this game at home.

For whatever reason, the Lancers always seem to play us tough. Liberty lead the whole game until the last 54 seconds. But they seemed off, sloppy with turnovers, poor shot selection, and shot clock management. Frustrating. The one game I'm finally able to make...

RE: 2017-2018 Basketball Season
What a disappointment. I was hoping the Gardner-Webb game was our big head-scratcher for the season but I was wrong. Ugh, I knew we had a long ways to go to be where we want to be as a program but this is such a shock. I thought we were better than this but apparently not. Are we still a mid-tier Big South school?

Definitely a head scratcher but I think we are still one of the best 3 teams in the conference.

RE: 2017-2018 Basketball Season
As long as LU loses to teams like the Lancers, at home, the program will continue to be mired with the identify of the mediocrity of the Big South. Kermit had an off game. Anything from him would have likely swayed the game. He had lots of fouls and a terrible offensive game. Wondering if it was just a bad game or an injury or something else.

I think we are one of the best 3 teams as well. But we better compete with/against the best three teams... not lose at home to the conference’s worst team.
For this program to be what we want to be, we can’t be one of the top three teams in the Big South. We must be The best team annually.

On a higher note... the women’s team is still undefeated in conference play at (4-0) after beating Gardner Webb (12-4) by a score of 85-60. LU moves to (9-7) overall.

RE: 2017-2018 Basketball Season
How often does Duke lose to the worst ACC teams? What about Arizona and the PAC 12, or Kansas and the Big 12, etc.? Whether we move on to a better conference or not, this has to be corrected. Not a huge deal in the long-term but we can't ignore it.

RE: 2017-2018 Basketball Season
I suppose I overestimated this team. It’s just not as good as I had expected them to be. I can temper my expectations though. We are still early on in the McKay era. Just hoping for a 20 win season again.

The flu has decimated our lineup the past few games. Hopefully we will be reasonably healthy vs. HPU.

RE: 2017-2018 Basketball Season
Yuck! Liberty is not a good basketball team right now. As coach said, the team is not physically or mentally tough. Hope things get fixed. Losing confrence record, nearly .500 overall record.

Revised season prediction: 17-14
One and done in the BSC tourny.
No post season play.

I'm sure we aren't the only team dealing with the flu. Would Duke, Kentucky, etc. be losing the Big South schools if they were hit hard with the flu? If we want to be at the top of the sport, we should expect better of ourselves. This is McKay's third year so the team should be almost entirely his recruits. I'm not saying we need to get rid of him but this isn't what expect and it needs to turn around.

Well Kentucky did just lose to USC. They had no business losing that game. So, yes, it does happen to blue bloods. McKay is the right guy right now they are just in a rough patch.
