RE: Weber State vs JMU
Some more Weber State trivia...

For 80’s Braves fans, Dale Murphy’s son is the nose tackle and he is very good with 14 tackles for loss. He is also 26 years old.

Weber State has at least 3 players that are 26 years old. 04-jawdrop
No wonder these guys won the Big Sky. They are grown men.

Only half an hour north of me. I should go plant some JMU swag on their campus.

Yes! Do it!

Is this the furthest a team will have travelled to BFS?

RE: Weber State vs JMU
Weber's Schedule (Opponents regular season record included):
W Montana Western (Div II) 76-0
L @ Cal (5-7) 33-20
W @ Sac State (7-4) 31-24
W UC Davis (5-6) 41-3
W @ Montana St (5-6) 25-17
L SUU (9-2) 32-16
W @ Cal Poly (1-10) 17-3
W Montana (7-4) 41-27
W @ EWU (7-4) 28-20
W @ PSU (0-11) 63-17
W ID St (4-7) 35-7
Playoffs
W WIU (8-3) 21-19
W @ SUU (9-2) 30-13
http://www.ncaa.com/schools/weber-st/football

So Weber is 2-1 vs playoff teams: 1-1 vs their in state rival SUU, and beat the 4th place MVFC team in WIU. Also 3-0 vs the the Big Sky 7-4 bubble teams. Didn't play NAU, the 7-4 bubble team that got in. Played a relatively close game vs a mediocre 5-7/2-7 PAC 12 Cal (3 of Cal's PAC 12 losses were by 1 to 3 points).

Its clear the 3 best teams now are JMU, SDSU, and NDSU. Hard to say who is the 4th best team left. Could be Weber. They're certainly not the worst..

RE: Weber State vs JMU
For those who didn't know, their QB was injured in the first SUU game. That was a major contributing factor to the outcome. Take that outlier away, and this team has only lost to Cal.

This is a TOUGH opponent, don't be fooled by the rest of the Big Sky that forgets to play defense. Watching the SUU game this weekend, it was clear that they had 4-5 man rush that clogged holes and put pressure on the QB. The DBs sat back in coverage and took care of things. It's basically how our defense operates. The question will be how healthy their DBs are as a couple went down with injuries late in the game. That would potentially help the Dukes stretch the field to open up the running game.

They also seem to use the whole field on offense, going sideline to sideline or downfield. I think our advantage is a more mobile QB. I hope we can keep up the pressure, either through sacks or INTs as was the case Saturday. Turnovers are such a major factor in these games, but somehow Weber St. gave the ball up 3x and still went on a 30-3 run to finish the game. This will be the biggest test for JMU yet. Obviously, the same can be said for Weber St. Should be a good one, and I hope anyone within 2-3 hours will make it on Friday night.

Is there no maximum age rule for the ncaa? I figured no. It’s more about four years of eligibility.

Watched the game last night, and both teams looked slow.

Always interesting when teams from the across the country get together. TBH, i was more worried about Soft Houston last year. I wasn’t all that impressed with what I saw last night.

My take away from watching that game has how much smaller Weber's lineman were...both offensive and defensive. We should have the advantage in the trenches.

You need to get your eyes checked. Weber’s listed lines (esp their DL) are bigger than JMU.

Weber listed starting OL avg is 6’4”+/302 (compared to about 6’3 1/2”/300 for JMU).
LT 6’4”/295
LG 6’4”/300
OC 6’3”/295
RG 6’4”/300
RT 6’6”/320

Weber 2 deep DL (starters bolded). Starters listed avg is about 6’4”/287 (Compared to about 6’3 1/2”/257 for JMU).

LE 6’5”/270
— 6’6”/265
— 6’3”/260

DT 6’4”/295
— 6’2”/275

DT 6’1”/295
— 6’1”/305

RE 6’3”/250
— 6’1”/245

Bigger does not always = better on football lines. Athleticism and execution are much more important. Jacksonville State was bigger than Kennesaw State but Kennesaw State is very athletic and we know how that game ended up. The Dukes D line has elite athleticism.
Agreed. I was just responding to the false notion that Weber's lineman were smaller on both sides of the ball. Maybe watching online distorts the perception of sizes. Or on Sat night alcohol does..

Watching on Flat Screen TV and sober......but do lecture on

the four best and most complete teams left in the bracket are:

JMU
NDSU

Weber St

we'll likely have to beat all 3 of those to repeat

What if UNH upsets SDSU? And Wofford upsets NDSU, or Kennesaw State upsets SHSU and NDSU?

I don’t think so. I’ve said I went to JMU and been asked “that’s in PA or NC, right?”

RE: Weber State vs JMU
For reference purposes...

Dec. 2, 2017 vs Stony Brook -- reported attendance (aka tickets accounted for) = 16,449

Dec. 9, 2016 vs Soft Doucheston State (Friday night, temps around 19 degrees) -- reported attendance = 15,646

Dec. 8, 2017 vs Weber State -- reported attendance = ???

If we get another 16K, I guess I'll be pleasantly surprised. Friday happens to be last day of Fall semester classes for students/faculty with final exams starting for some on Saturday, but for the masses on Monday. Hopefully, the students will show like they did for The Charmins last year. One week at a time...

Yep. If we repeat, we will certainly have earned it (unlike another team in that list).

I think this will be something like 23-13 (with a D/ST score - or at least good set up for a score). This is the time of year when fatigue can play a factor in the second half for teams that didn't get a first round bye. Especially when they're going up against a defense like ours...
