You would think if playing a 6-6 p5...well really 4-6, hell beating this UF team and ULM shouldn't count, was so big of a deal to S.Miss...

they wouldn't play the following FCS schools the previous 4 years
Southern
Savannah State
Austin Peay
Alcorn State

BTW Western picked playing a AAC school in Fla. over a .500 P5 school the last 2 years. I guess some schools look at where they recruit at.

You would think if it was that important S. Miss would have had over 22,761 for a SEC school this year. Hell I guess it just wasn't that important.

Very odd that you say the UF and ULM wins shouldn't count. I have no idea where that is coming from.

Alabama plays FCS teams every year before their Auburn game and yet Saban says P5 should only play P5. Your point that USM wants to play a P5 team during a bowl means that they shouldn't play a FCS team during regular season... that makes no sense.

Who really knows, WKU may not have picked playing in Boca over HOD. CUSA didn't play a P5 team in a bowl last year, so how did WKU pick a AAC team over a P5 team?

Yes, the turnout for UK was terrible. If Missouri came to play at WKU, I'm sure it would be a sellout. That is about what people at USM think about UK.

A terrible turnout for us would probably be an attendance record at WKU

You won't find a Western fan disagreeing with that, much. The only thing I will add...

there should be a * with S. Miss attendance. Because the real paying attendance is more in the 20k range.

I do know that if Western gave boat loads of tickets away at the corner store or sold them for $1 or $5. Western's attendance numbers would be in the 22+ range.

I can also tell you this...the bottom drops out for Western next season as far as attendance.

We still averaged over 20k despite the absolute doldrums that were 2012-2014 and putting a stop to the super cheap/free ticket nonsense. Thus why we had "truer" attendance figures like 22-23k vs. Kentucky. It wasn't inflated by anything. I mean, it isn't great, but the figures were also completely accurate.

But your past attendance were based off a large part of free or huge discounted tickets. So when a few S. Miss fans (like TTT) wants to point to those good old years of when S. Miss was filling the stadium (even if it's not true) vs all the "good" teams that use to be in CUSA...

those numbers were based off *

It sucks for the players to not.be able to travel, and they definitely didn't choose that bowl. Lets be honest, FAU and attendance didn't play into their decision. How many were really at the title game? You think more are showing up for Akron in a meaningless bowl?

Playing any P5 is a win for us in bowl season. USM should eat it up. I would absolutely love if Marshall was playing FSU. Thats a game to hang your hat on, 6-6 FSU or not. Its a win your program would always remember. It sure isn't going to remember that great bowl win over georgia state, or Akron. Just like most herd fans could care less we beat NIU, but do care about that win over Maryland.

Why does every thread have to turn into this e-***** contest over whose crappy attendance is less crappy? We all have room for growth. WKU's attendance is awful. It is going to get worse before it gets better unfortunately. We do travel relatively well (in some cases our road attendance is better than our home, see Vandy last year). I don't expect much of a turnout for this bowl game, but I will be there cheering for the players.

They played UCF once before we joined D1A. They only played USF when they were a BCS team in the Big East. They've never played FAU or FIU as far as I know. Their fragile egos are already shaken by getting Jimbo poached away, a loss to FAU would be too much for them to handle.

Good luck USM bros. Every UCF, USF, FAU, and FIU fan will be rooting for you.

Not really true. USF has played FSU 4 times (2 home/2 away). At least 2 of those were when USF was a member of AAC. In fact, they played just last year.

"So I spoke to my (limited) contacts at FAU and asked why FAU is in this game.

CUSA now considers the Boca Raton Bowl as the PREMIER bowl in its lineup. This is from a location/destination standpoint as well as infrastructure to host teams. Anytime CUSA is slated to be in the line up CUSA wants its conference champion in this game. Hence why FAU is there. FAU administration isn't thrilled with it but their hands were tied. The conference pretty much said, "You're the champs, you're in Boca Bowl". The last minute shuffle to get Akron over Temple was in trying to get the best possible opponent against the CUSA champion. Akron as the MAC runner-up was deemed better then a 6-6 AAC Temple.

So know we know."

Heres the better question. If Boca Bowl is the premier CUSA bowl why isnt FAU playing C-USA champ Toledo?

The Boca bowl should be CUSA #1 vs MAC #1 unless the CUSA #1 or Mac #1 has gotten a bcs or other at-large bid bowl.

I always get a chuckle out of attendance banter... as if there is some sort of championship trophy for attendance.

If the Boca bowl is the premier CUSA bowl then its payout needs to be upped , Gasparilla bowl and the New Orleans bowls have higher payouts.

Whoops, my mistake. Was that deal signed when you were still in the BE?

If not, maybe there's something to the stadium size argument that FSU fans peddle

Did you want to watch your bowl game on Facebook or beIN? I hear they're both quality productions.

The answer is because ESPN wouldn't air them if we hadn't and then they would get no viewers. ESPN/ABC controls all of the bowls.
