Keeping Dreamers would cost taxpayers $26b over ten years
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/12/17/kee...s-say.html

Quote:Allowing 2 million illegal immigrant “Dreamers” to remain in the U.S. would cost taxpayers $25.9 billion over the next decade, the Congresssional Budget Office says in a report released Friday.

Dreamers are the prospective beneficiaries of the DREAM Act (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors), legislation introduced in the U.S. Senate earlier this year to provide a pathway to citizenship for some illegal immigrants.

Quote:Under the bill, immigrants who benefited from DACA would be eligible for Medicaid, food stamps, education funding, and various other programs, provided that the applicants meet certain requirements.

Of the 11 to 12 million illegal immigrants currently in the U.S., some 3.25 million would be eligible for the DREAM Act. However, the report estimates that only 2 million would apply, 1.6 million of whom would earn legal status over the next 10 years. A remaining 1 million would become citizens with that same time period, which would allow them to sponsor relatives, the report states.

The CBO estimates that the bill would increase budget deficits by $25.9 billion over the 2018-2027 period while increasing net revenues by $0.9 billion.

Out! Out! Out!

The bad guys are not those that want them deported but their parents that put them in this situation.

DJT is on the right path with the wall and creating/enforcing immigration laws....

however, the dreamers are going nowhere.....the damage has been done

the key is to eliminate further damage through legislation moving forward....

it's scary how long it's going to take to undo the residual effect from the harbingers of 0'bummer....

That money number way seems low. Thats only $1300 per year per. If they are in school, the education amount would be at least 5 times that alone. And that doesnt count free meals at school, ebt cards, etc.

Sorry to hijack this thread with a different topic but I don't believe I've seen this elsewhere in the Spin Room.

Trump also announced a week ago or so that he is directing NASA to send manned space missions back to the Moon (something we haven't done since 1972) with the ultimate goal that we build an outpost on the moon that can eventually get us to Mars. I don't think I've seen a good true estimate on that cost but some have speculated we're easily talking about 300 to 400 billion dollars over the next 3-5 years.

I'm actually in favor of sending someone back to the Moon. First, it's good for Houston's economy and I have friends who work for NASA so it's good news for them. Secondly, a Rice alum (and ex-athlete) is now in charge of NASA so I'd like to see him do some positive things (and he's already seen much criticism from the left for his past views). And thirdly, NASA has created some amazing scientific advances and no doubt a new mission of this magnitude will have lasting effects on our and future generations.

But this is a LOT of money and it's going to effect the budget and deficit. And I'm surprised no one has talked about it, especially now when you have private companies like Space X trying to do the same thing.

you can ponder things like that when the long term goal is to minimize creating a subsidized welfare class by getting the GDP back in 'alignment'....

it's truly scary how you guys on the left view so many thingys in a vacuum....

Perfect example of why immigration should only be merit based. If you aren't at least a net neutral you aren't even considered because non-citizens should not be a drain on society.

Make them EARN their way by joining the military. We can't have illegals join the Snowflake crowd too. Too many hands in the till already. I'd be all for them serving the country they profess to "love".

For those that have even graduated from college more the better that they join the military. We're gonna need more servicemen/women in the coming years...for sure.

As for food stamps and such it should be like Social Security, if they haven't donated to our countrys treasury they shouldn't be eligible.

Speaking with people who served during both the draft and all volunteer eras in the military it would be a huge mistake to force people to serve unless it was an absolute necessity.

Just so you guys know, this calculator is not from the person Obama used who figured out that the average American family was going to save $2500 a year when they signed up for Obamacare.

That's wonderful but last time I checked, there was only 700k Dreamers. 03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao
