Does anyone know if we took a look at him or not? Has quite the offer list including a lot of local schools, but haven't seen UC as ever offering. Seems we could use him next year. Can't blame him though for choosing Texas.

He averaged 1.1 points per game last season for Moeller, and in the Adidas Showcase last summer he averaged 6/5...I'm ok with him going somewhere else.

The kid has had some insane growth spurt, growing a foot in 2 years, and about 8 inches since last year. I wouldn't let those numbers deceive you. Curious to see what numbers he's putting up this year. Apparently this is his first year starting Varsity.

He hasn't scored more than 8 in a game yet. He's a massive project, and I don't think that's the kind of player that has EVER panned out with Mick.

Interesting. Didn't realize his productivity was so low. He has a massive offer list from XU, UK, OSU, Purdue, Texas, etc. Not sure what they are seeing.

A 6'11" kid with a 7'2" wingspan who can dribble relatively well and who has an ability to grow in the game. Lots of coaches like clean slates, so they can mold someone into the type of player they want rather than having to break bad habits built over the years. He's an obvious project, but he has significant upside...just don't think we have the scholarship availability to take him on or the desire to have a kid who probably won't contribute for two years on our team.

A lot of folks here are big on getting kids from winning programs based upon football recruiting thread. Moeller is arguably a bit more of a basketball or baseball school than football these days. Plus he's got some bloodlines with his dad being both a former NFL player and coach iirc.
Obviously I'm not saying he's the next Kenyon Sr., but I think he had a somewhat similar trajectory. Growth spurt, unknown recruiting wise until offseason before senior year, unimpressive scoring stats (and I'm guessing the competition might not have been GCL caliber.) but very athletic with long arms. At least that's how I remember it.
And to take this even further OT, while I was trying to find Kenyon's actual HS stats (no luck), I did find this article from back in the day that's a fun read (if you can get over what happens a few weeks after it was written):
Grand Kenyon High-flying, shot-defying Cincinnati center Kenyon Martin is taking his game and the Bearcats to new heights

He’s a averaging 12.8 a game this year with 3 double digit scoring games out of 5. A lot of dunks as you could imagine. He doesn’t dominate a game like you’d expect from someone with his offer list.

I would be curious to see Anthony Davis' high school stats, from Sophomore to Senior. He also had a similar growth spurt late in high school when he blew up. Not saying he is anywhere near AD, but would be just curious for comparison.

Maxpreps doesn't even have him scoring a point against Eastmoor, so obviously my info was off. I stand corrected.
I still don't think this is a kid Mick would touch...notice I'm saying Mick, and not any of us.

I mean he gave a scholarship to Jamaree Strickland, David Nyarsuck, and Chiek Mdoji. Not sure why he wouldn't take a flyer on this kid. I guess he already has two many project big men waiting in the wings as it is.

Yeah, we already have 4 project bigs on this team. And while all of them have physical tools and give good effort on defense, I'm skeptical any of them are ever going to be double-digit scorers. We need to find a grad transfer or a JUCO that has some offensive polish or else our guards and wings are going to have to do the lion's share of the work next year.

I'm pretty certain he wanted to go away to school as this came up before. That said, Marvin Lewis and his staff likely gone this year as well. Not sure if his dad will even be in Cincy much longer.

RE: Jaxson Hayes
maybe mick gets all these pj's cuz he knows he can't teach size (not a mick height joke) and chalks it up to a risk that just didn't pan out. justin jackson might be his biggest success story. that dude was sweet. i didn't really appreciate him as much as i should have. good glue guy. his good bigs were already pretty fundamentally sound players when they arrived. so the work was pretty much done on his part. gary's gotten better but that isn't surprising. yancy's kinda a heartbreaker but i'd take him on my team any day. he and big john could be mick's biggest recruits. i digress. who's to say he isn't trying?

I think you answered your own question. After how well those went (with the exception of Mbodji's senior year), I could see him being against it.
