The following is from Wikipedia's article on WSU:

Wichita State University began in 1886 as a private Congregational preparatory school, founded by Rev. Joseph Homer Parker. Initially it was referred to as "Young Ladies College", "Wichita Ladies College", and "Congregational Female College". It was part of a boom in college and university creation and was envisioned to admit women twelve years and older who were "able to read, write, spell and recite the parts of speech."

For the state of Brownback, those are some pretty impressive admission standards.

Turns out shockerfan1313’s parody involving 1846 smack talk was not that far off.

Moody wasn't typical Moody tonight because it is Christmas break and 95% of SMU students are from somewhere other than Dallas. Also, it's Dallas. They only get turnt up for certain teams and UCF isn't one of them.

Also, funny how WSU fans spent the first half of this thread arguing that winning a tournament game is more important than winning a conference title but then spent the latter half trying to shame Cincy by claiming X runs that town. Pretty sure UC has a boat load more tournament wins than the X.

I remember a few X tournament runs. I don’t remember any from Cincy.

That's because their tournament wins were in the 1800's

Where does one start here?

This post is a total keeper.

Obviously the women twelve years and older part is now the pre-requisite for Wheaten Terrier admission to this message board.

I said Xavier was the most relevant school in Cincinnati. Relevant means “now” in case you were wondering.

Sir, let me preface this by saying I have been a lifelong UC fan and had a daughter graduate from X. You cannot be more wrong. For every X fan there is at least 30 UC fans. There is a huge amount of UC paraphernalia around town compared to X which is minimal. Sorry, that's just the way it is, they are not the most relevant team in Cincy. They are relevant nationally only with the poll voters. They certainly have had a couple of nice elite eight runs, will give them that.

I think it's fair to acknowledge that outside of recent head-to-head records, poll rankings and NCAA Tournament success, Cincinnati is far more relevant as indicated by gross sales of university branded snow hats in the greater metropolitan area.

If you’re talking about on a national stage you are correct.

If you talking about following in Cincinnati that it’s not true. Cincinnati has a greater following in Cincy and always will.

UC smacked Xavier around last year and X went further in the tournament. No reason UC can't do the same this year after getting wacked by X. Broome looks like he's starting to get comfortable which is a very good sign. He's the most talented player on the team in my estimation.

Actually UCF has TWO players hurt. Point guard BJ Taylor will hopefully be back next week.

Aubrey Dawkins (transfer from Michigan and son of UCF coach Johnny Dawkins) would have been one of UCF's top two players, but had shoulder surgery just before the season and is out for the year.

If we are just talking college basketball junkies, then yeah, maybe X is more relevant.

But UC is a bigger school. It is a better school. It has college football and was in the Big East when the Big East meant more.

If you went anywhere outside of Ohio and asked someone to name a university in Cincinnati, do you want to make the bet that more people would say Xavier? If so, I'm willing to take that bet.

Xavier has Cincy beat on recent tourney runs, recent head-to-heads, and TV contract $. UC wins everything else.

I believe Xavier also had higher attendance last season (guessing this season too given the renovation?). Current poll ranking also would be in D'artagnan's column.

Although if we're being honest the Buckeyes are far and away lead mule in queen city and everyone else is fighting over who gets to be the Buffalo Bills in that Super Bowl showdown.
