RE: With Alabama making the playoff ND looks to shift priorities
So would that require division realignment because Notre Dame would likely want Pittsburgh, Boston College, and Texas along with a Florida school annually?

Atlantic: Miami, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Texas, Boston College, Pittsburgh, North Carolina St, Wake Forest
Coastal: Florida St, Clemson, North Carolina, Duke, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Syracuse

If that occurs then the SEC would likely take Bedlam:

West: Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas A&M, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi St
East: Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina

From there, it doesn’t leave much for the B1G and PAC. Outside of a merger, perhaps the PAC takes Texas Tech, TCU, Houston, and Kansas St and the B1G brings in Kansas and Iowa St? I considered Connecticut over Iowa St.

PAC
West: Washington, Washington St, Oregon, Oregon St, California, Stanford, USC, UCLA
East: Arizona, Arizona St, Utah, Colorado, Kansas St, Texas Tech, TCU, Houston

B1G
West: Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Iowa St, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Northwestern
East: Indiana, Purdue, Michigan, Michigan St, Ohio St, Penn St, Maryland, Rutgers

Being serious.....what is desirable about that conference for Clemson besides Georgia Tech and South Carolina? It's road trips to mostly small venues and lackluster fanbases and empty visitors sections at home games except for the GT and VT games.

XLance always seems to want to strip the football schools from the ACC and load it with basketball schools.

IMO, it would have been much easier if UNC had simply joined the Big East - they don't even sponsor FBS football.
07-coffee3

It would have been a perfect fit because neither does UNC

Well, Carolina does lead the ACC in National Championships won (43), has won more ACC championships (with the exception of Maryland) than any other school in the ACC , and even more incredibly: Carolina has more top 10 finishes in the Director's Cup standings than the rest of the ACC combined (including Notre Dame).

RE: With Alabama making the playoff ND looks to shift priorities
UNC——NCSU
Duke——Wake
UVA——-VT
ND———Texas
GT———-Clemson
Miami——FSU
Pitt———Louisville
BC———Syracuse

It would probably be something like this if it were to happen.

Or both Notre Dame and Texas join the Coastal and BC becomes the Irish’s cross-division. I see VT moving to the Atlantic either way.

No incentive for either ND or Tejas at this point, so I don’t see it happening.

I like it, but I'd swap Pitt and Louisville.

How many in football? You know, the central theme of the post string you quoted.

OOps I was wrong!
It was Carolina 265 ACC championships to Maryland's second place total of 196.

Congrats! How much money did Women's Connect Four bring to the conference last year?

The consequences of Title IX are not to be mocked!

Also, it cost them $25.

In that case you better swap UNC for Wake Forest as well - I'm sure they'd prefer an all-private school division!
Swap UVA for Syracuse (leave GT - no more swaps). Voila!

Is this actually going somewhere?
Or are you going to start to tout Princeton (26) and Yale (18), since they are nos. one and 2 on the all time football championship list?

It would also be to create a true-zipper, which I believe we still need.

Without ND, I think VaTech and Syracuse should swap, but I believe Notre Dame would prefer BC if they joined for FB. Also, ND probably doesn't want to play two teams in the same state each year (they would be forced to play two from NC) and if they joined for football they'd have more say than they do now.

Given that the State of Florida is such a rich recruiting ground. I think the ACC should consider expanding to 16 teams in Football.

ACC North
Boston College
Syracuse
Pittsburgh
Louisville
Virginia Tech
North Carolina State
Central Florida
Miami

ACC South
Virginia
Duke
North Carolina
Wake Forest
Clemson
Georgia Tech
Florida State
South Florida

Notre Dame same deal. ACC would have 17 teams for all other sports.

The academic powers that be, if Oklahoma was going to leave the Big 12, they'd way rather go to the Pac 12. There's not a lot of enthusiasm for the SEC on the academic side. I think they look at the Pac 12 as a way to enhance their academic reputation. SEC is about the same as the Big 12. Big 12 used to be better and then the SEC got two of the better academic institutions from the Big 12 and sort of tilted it. But I think they'd rather be in a league with Stanford and Cal and UCLA than in a league with Mississippi State or Georgia.

In retrospect, the PAC12 turning down OU and OSU might very well be the dumbest decision of the realignment era. Holy crap, what were they thinking?

No thanks to the U_F twins. Double duplication of market with no added benefit.

No way in hell NC State is going to be completely isolated from the rest of the NC schools and every other original member of the ACC.

If you want more Florida exposure you have three open OOC games to go get it. Play the U_F and F_U twins home and home until your heart is content.

they turned them down on both academic and market issues. This time around the PAC can't afford them. Both Oklahoma and Okie State make more than the PAC schools, by about 6 million plus T3 which puts OU about 10-11 million ahead of them.

Tramel has always been a Boren mouthpiece. Boren's gone in June. That piece is over a year old. And Oklahoma and Oklahoma State as a pair will be impossible for the Big 10 to take. So the SEC isn't in a bad position on this one if they offer the pair. The question is will we want to offer the pair. ESPN talking heads have buzzed that we will for 2 years now with Finebaum putting his stamp on it this past Spring. Since it's likely 5 years off who knows.

But in the end it will be about geographical fit, familiar foes, and money. I like our positioning on all three.

And if OU doesn't head to the Big 10 and chooses the SEC it bodes much better for Texas to consider the ACC.

they turned them down on both academic and market issues.

At the height of the conference realignment drama, all signs pointed to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State leaving — or, at the very least, wanting to leave — for the Pac-12, but in the 11th hour, the Pac-12 decided not to expand any further.

How close the deal was to being finalized, we’ll probably never be 100 percent sure.
