RE: The Lib Mindset
I respect everyone's opinion and my hand is raised for leaning on defending the teaching profession when its warranted largely due to my wife being so dedicated to her profession. When we moved to North Carolina about 14 years ago, average teacher salaries were near the bottom of all 50 states. We live in a mostly rural, poorer county and salaries have gotten better in recent years but my wife has two graduate degrees and she is just now making as much money as she did when we left Ohio to move down here. You don't go in to the teaching profession to make money. I would argue most are called to it like social workers for example. I'll spare everyone the stories I could share of what my wife has had to overcome with challenges teaching over the years in Alabama, Ohio and now North Carolina for time's sake. The bottom line is she and others I know personally do not feel entitled as some (teachers) obviously feel they are. You can certainly get into the weeds and discuss how location (e.g., northeast, California, etc.), public vs. private and institutions of higher learning play a role in the entitlement/liberalism attitudes in education. All I'm saying is not all teachers are this way and my experience has been the majority are dedicated to their jobs and care about students and performance. I didn't mean to derail gdunn's thread. Back to it....

Mach, your retirement age was upped because the math doesn't work when a state pays its workers as long in retirement as it did when they worked. Unless you want your state to fail financially (see Illinois), 30 and out doesn't work for state employees....and they did this to all state employees, not just teachers...

Should have gotten a job where you control your own retirement. You want the gov to pay for your retirement, then you’re at the whim of who ever is in power.

We should make your pay performance based like the rest of us and see how many options you have.

Once again, tax cuts are not stealing from you. People keeping their own money isn’t stealing. You have no claim to their money you mooch.

That's because a 60 year old cop can't really do the job at that age physically. You, a teacher, can. Same with firemen.

Oh yeah, and you aren't risking your life on you job....04-cheers

Other state workers got their retirement age upped.

Quit being a baby.

I said that teachers, as a group, had a put upon mentality.

Our teacher on this board has since talked about Nazis, putting teachers in concentration camps, compared themselves to Fire and Police as if they don’t get **** on.

Isn’t being proven right delicious?

Going to put it in a way that even you should be able to understand. Sesame Street style:

One of these things is not like the others

One of these things just doesn't belong

Can you tell which thing is not like the others

By the time I finish my song?

Did you guess which thing was not like the others?

Did you guess which thing just doesn't belong?

If you guessed this one is not like the others
<points at the teacher>

Then you're absolutely...right!

The rant of the teacher in this thread pretty much fits the premise of the OP.

So we should have our pensions cut? Meanwhile a person stated that teachers weren’t the only ones cut. I’m not so sure about that. It’s terrible

This story comes off as highly embellished, and beyond that ascribing general d!ckhole behavior to any one political ideology seems spurious at best.

How about going out and creating your own wealth, instead of blaming taxpayers for fiscal sanity?

How many of those taxpayers even have their own pension.

What a sense of entitlement.

The problem is that your pensions were based upon an unsustainable economic model. So what should be done to keep those pensions?

Exactly. Everybody underfunds future liabilities because it’s easy. Until it bites you in the butt.
