These schools have whined about the tournament being to far away, better hope you all show up, because I know I won’t be able to afford to be there and I make decent $. I have a bad filling that its going to a real ugly showing on TV this year

La Tech is much closer to Frisco than UTSA and UTEP. Rice and La Tech are about the same distance.

DFW is a common landing spot for La Tech Alumni.

UTEP to Dallas is more or less the same as WKU to Dallas. Probably 20 minutes of flight difference, <2 hours by car difference.
Ha.... yeah. Ive been there, just not often
I forget just how big Texas is, that’s crazy

You never been there huh? Cause if you had you’d have been told that 5 times by the first 5 Texans you meet.

Punching your ticket to Frisco: Battle for MBB Seeds 9-12
Glad you all’s are enjoying the thread. I figured pretty early on that my team would have its work cut out for it this year. What I do like is that top-to-bottom everybody seems capable of putting up a fight (on any given Thursday, as they say) though to be sure some more capable than others...

Thursday:
USM (4-5) at FIU (3-6)
La Tech (4-5) at FAU (4-5)
<#5T> at Charlotte (1-7) <#4> at UTSA (4-5)
<#2> at UTEP (2-7)
I just don’t know what to expect tonight. I do know that it’s still Thursday Morning (afternoon already in Florida) and LA TECH IS STILL UNDER .500
They have a tough one tonight that I see going down to the wire. Still think Louisiana Tech escapes with a narrow one tonight and 2-0 weekend. I’ll give 1-1 splits to USM and FAU. I think FAU just may be FAU REAL. Not sold on the Gole Deagles.
The other three denizens of the deep in play tonight are all homestanding against upper tier competition. I’ll actually give Charlotte the nod for best chance at an upset this week. If for no other reason than they’re “due” having not won since... was it opening week?
Meantime as a Rice fan I’m pumped to be off tonight— no painful loss for US tonight, plus a chance to move up in the standings if UTEP can’t pull the improbable upset.
Thanks and Go CUSA!

Poor shooting tonight. Better pick it up second half.

Whew that was close. Thought we’d lost FAU to the other side again.
FIU wins, Charlotte doesn’t. So far:
FIU, USM, FAU all 4-6
Charlotte 1-8
UTSA - you’re on the clock with another upset special into the 2nd half... but still just under .500

Quick recap before Saturday’s second tier action gets underway later...
We ended up losing two of our own Thursday and they both may go far on their 4-game and 2-going-on-3 game winning streaks... good reminder that if you think of it, every one of us is just a 4-game winning streak away from respectability....

Besides the three mentioned above at 4-6 (tier 2a) ya got tier 2b as follows:
Rice 2-7
UTEP 2-8
Char 1-9
Starting to see some separation there, between those who really belong in Frisco and the true fence-sitters.

So it looks like it's going to come down to our head-to-head games vs. Rice and @ Charlotte for our ticket to Frisco.

Punching your ticket to Frisco: Battle for MBB Seeds 9-12
Going into this week we got:
FIU! 5-6
USM 5-6 showing signs of life
LATech 5-6 (welcome back!)
FAU 4-7 (getting swept at home)
Then
Rice 2-8 (0-1 moves up a spot)
UTEP 2-9
clt 1-10 (but showing well on Saturday)

FAU’s still got work to do to sew up the invite but this really is a 3 dog race right now.

Yup, there are some key games down the stretch that will determine who gets a ticket.

3 weeks left, we’re coming down the homestretch...
T8. LATech 6-7
T8. USM 6-7
10. FIU 5-8
11. FAU 4-9
T12. UTEP 2-10
T12. Rice 2-10
14. Charlotte 1-11

Bottom four are a combined 0-14 over the last two weeks. But everyone’s showing good spunk against higher ranked teams.

Games remaining:
FAU:FIU,Rice,NT,@ODU,@Char
UTEP: @Char,@ODU,LaT,USM,@Rice,@NT
Rice:Mar,WKU,@FAU,@FIU,UTEP,UTSA
Char:UTEP,UTSA,@WKU,@Mar,FIU,FAU

Middle doesn't play any of these guys down the stretch, that will get WKU closer (ODU is a lock for the 3 seed)

I need a tiebreaking expert here. So, for a two-way tie, it goes head to head then to record against the rest of the conference going from the top to the bottom (I think). Assuming UTEP loses out and assuming Rice beats UTEP March 1 and loses to everyone else, we'd both be at 3-15. UTEP's 2 non-Rice victories this year are over FIU and Charlotte. Rice's 2 non-UTEP victories would be over FIU and Charlotte. What would be the next tiebreaker?

Never mind. I think I figured it out. In the above scenario, Rice would have to lose to FIU. That would mean UTEP would be 1-0 against FIU and Rice 1-1. Unfortunately, that would break the tie in UTEP's favor.

UTEP gets the big comeback win Thursday @Charlotte to get their third... but turns around and gets more than doubled up at ODU tonight. (5:2’d up?). That loss gives Rice an inside track on the possible 2-way tiebreaker against UTEP (if Rice can square up when they host UTEP in the final week)

Meanwhile FAU gets a nice win tonight against Flinternational. Congrats and start packing your bags FAU, I believe you are coming to Frisco!

I’m going to claim to be a tiebreaking expert. Here’s the kicker on the tiebreaker this year. 0-1 is better than 0-2. It says so in the tiebreaker rules.

So... let’s say the standings stay as they are and Rice and UTEP both stumble their way down the stretch with Rice’s only win at home vs the Miners. At 3-15, LATech is the highest seeded team that Rice and UTEP have a different record against. And Rice would only be 0-1 against them while UTEP could be 0-2.

Tiebreaker at 3-15 goes to Rice. (Unless FAU or FIU catch or pass LATech).
At 4-14 its even more complicated but in that scenario a UTSA win could elevate Rice, or a LATech or USM win could elevate UTEP.

It’s Complicated, and silly. Much like the brand of basketball our two teams play.

Mucho style points to UTEP this week for a stellar 1-1 week all while losing a game by 49.

Could have sworn it was the other way around (0-1 was not better than 0-2). Thanks for the good news then.
