They might as well hold it in Anchorage. I can't think of a worse place to hold it among current NFL cities except Boston/New England, Detroit or Buffalo. But even those three aren't as cold as Minny (unless something has changed since the last time I checked).

Nothing against Minneapolis other than the weather this time of year.

They got heat inside the arena man.... LOL.

They could catch a Wild or Timberwolves game.

Indi and Detroit seemed to have hosted their Super Bowls fine.

RE: The Super Bowl is in Minnesota this year...
But what about outside? People go to the Super Bowl for the activities leading up to it as much as the game. No one wants to be walking around in single digit temperatures with worse wind chill.

Indy did fine because you don't have to step outside to go the game, hotel, mall and convention center. The only thing you do have to travel for is the Indy Motor Speedway. Maybe Detroit has a similar set up. If Minneapolis doesn't, then it's gonna be a very cold Super Bowl week.

Every possible remaining Super Bowl team except Jacksonville and New Orleans comes from a cold climate. Other than Minnesota wanting to be at home, I think most would prefer going to a resort-like destination. And even Minny would likely prefer to some degree to go to somewhere else than be stuck in their miserable environment for another week.

It was -26 when I was in MN in December. MSP is basically Hoth this time of year. That said the area is interconnected via several skyways and tunnels.

Hoth is the ice planet seen in the first few minutes of "The Empire Strikes Back".

The NFL probably placed it in Minneapolis in exchange for publicly funding the new dome, that's the way it usually works out.

Or even privately funded, as in the case with the new Rams stadium being built in Los Angeles. It is pretty much a given if an NFL team builds a new super-bowl worthy stadium, it will host at least 1 Super Bowl. Not sure if Las Vegas will get a Super Bowl though.

The new stadium is a vast improvement over the MetroDome, which has also hosted.

With the new light rail from MSP airport to the downtowns, a trip there doesn't actually mean walking outside.

Vikings fans are getting excited about being the home team now after their miraculous win vs the Saints.

Does Minnesota gets to double dip on the ticket allocation as both the NFC Champin and host team?

I think they reduce the Vikings overall ticket allocation. Also interesting is that if MIN wins they have to use a visiting locker room for the SB.

I'd beat down the NFL's doors if so. Even if officially the visiting team, they should just use their own lockerrooms. Why the hassle of moving everything for just one game?

The idea is to minimize any additional home field advantage the host team has. They already don’t have to travel and can use their own practice facility. In theory using a visitor locker room will make the Vikings a little uncomfortable. At least that’s what the league offices believe.
