RE: San Francisco Is A Literal S***hole, Public Defecation Map Reveals
I don't think what san francisco has going is sustainable. $200k to get by out there is just dumb. They say the main reason to stay put is the camaraderie and ability to bounce ideas off one another, and recruiting is easier. I say it's become a dangerous echo chamber. Just look at the problems google, twitter, and facebook have created for themselves.
We are already seeing many firms leave for Austin. More than $1 billion of taxable income has already been extracted in the past decade. A drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things, but I think it's just the beginning.

It's not for me, but I agree. Great opportunities can arise if you can put up with some bad years. Detroit is coming back, as well.

it all depends on your distribution/mfg needs.....there's easily others that are more desirable depending on 'wants'
however, like north jxn, b'ham, nashville, etc......health care is top notch.....
toss in the weather, and it becomes value......
the midsouth is happening.....TN/AL is primed right now.....we're lagging a tad, but we kinda like it that way....
I will say this:
Cities that haven't been spoiled (Baltimore, Nashville, most of the deep Southern cities) are actually cool places to meet people who are chill. It doesn't matter if it's a hookup, wife/husband material, or a good buddy. It also doesn't matter about your lifestyle, either - people from off the beaten path a bit tend to just come out better. Most DC people are 15x as obnoxious as most Baltimore people.

Hell, I loved Montgomery and most people would put it in the worst category.

The gump isn't that bad compared to big cities. It's got tough spots but it's no bham.

SF actually needs to crash for 3-4 years. It's overheated to a point beyond reason.

The housing market is really unreal. But everytime I think it can't continue going up, it does precisely that.

Again, there's a very small number of people that trade California for Mississippi. Especially those that had housing taken care of there. Again, if one is straight, conservative, white, cis, Christian, and conservative (or at least willing to agree that those things should be supreme) then Hattiesburg is doable. Most people who leave California do it for liberal areas in other states or within California.
I lived in California for 5 years. Housing was always the big cost. Once I got that sorted, I noted that my expenses were really only about 10 percent more than Texas. Including taxes. Now, this was San Diego, not SFO.

Kick them out
Thought Cali was the third largest economy on the planet and could seceed and be fine without the rest of the US.
6th. Could they, though? First thing they would do is completely open up the borders, and give free goodies to every living soul. One tech crash and it would be all over.
Edit: Never mind, I misread the way your worded that.

Most of the neighbors in LA were conservatives, other than a couple of entertainers who lived nearby. Same thing in SF, but that's not likely the case there now. More conservatives in California than any other state in the country, but I do understand your point.

Gimme Hatty any day of the week. May not be the laid back Cali style and be hotter than Satan's taint, but it's as close to home as I want to be and not a big city. Man could settle in Oak Grove and have a nice life. Or used to. Not sure haven't been in quite some time.
