What does that have to do with anything? My folks had a large lot on Benedict Canyon road in Los Angeles/Beverly Hills. Sold it for a fortune. Took a TINY bit of that money and bought a quaint piece of property south of Hattiesburg that's fantastic, peaceful and very private.
We had a condo in San Francisco that used to be very nice but then the city became a garbage dump so we sold it for another ridiculous sum. San Francisco has become a cesspool of insanely overpriced concrete. Everyone we knew there got out while the gettin was good. It's a total freak show.

Again, there's a very small number of people that trade California for Mississippi. Especially those that had housing taken care of there. Again, if one is straight, conservative, white, cis, Christian, and conservative (or at least willing to agree that those things should be supreme) then Hattiesburg is doable. Most people who leave California do it for liberal areas in other states or within California.

I lived in California for 5 years. Housing was always the big cost. Once I got that sorted, I noted that my expenses were really only about 10 percent more than Texas. Including taxes. Now, this was San Diego, not SFO.

Nope. Not letting you get away with this one.

I'm about 95% sure you can be gay in the deep south and do just fine. I also don't think that atheists, agnostics, Jews, or Hindi populations have issue in the deep south as well.

There are non-accepting families all across America - and the Northeast is actually TERRIBLE for this. I've heard so many white/liberal NYers use the n-word that it would blow your mind. I never heard it fricking once in Louisiana.

A lot of the "hateful" shite the South gets is just dated reputation that doesn't actually hold water in 2018.

This statement in bold is foolish.

This statement in bold is foolish.

Outside of the City of New Orleans and Atlanta, its not really doable to be Gay.

Heck in Mississippi you can't even get your partner buried.
In Alabama, you can't get a hospice bed.
You can't get a nursing home bed within 80 miles of Layfayette, Louisiana.

In Mississippi, you also can be legally denied healthcare. Its getting so bad, I'm about to ask if my medevac policy covers domestic travel.

My God, if you're the parent of a Transgendered kid, where the hell would you even send the child to school?

The only son of a Southern Governor is Gay. From what I've been told (repeatedly), He was beat half to death in what was described as a gay bashing outside a college bar and his father, the then Attorney General....did everything to avoid getting justice for his own kid. They shipped the kid to Austin. That kids dad is now an extremely anti-Gay governor of a Southern state, where he has been a leader in advancing extreme levels of discrimination. While its true that this particular Governor is a truly repulsive human being, hes really a product of the state. Now that was told to me third hand by about 20 different people, so caveat emptor. BTW, I'm friends with a child of another ex-Attorney General from that same state. That kid's dislike of the Deep South is extremely intense.

I know Gay people who've stayed. There's always the one kid who for whatever reason that can sail thought it. Good for him. The others who stay are really accepting of their third or fourth class status, or who don't have other choices. And then there are a few that just cant imagine living anywhere else (They know it sucks).

If youre outside New Orleans and Atlanta, the Gays you run into are a small subset of the people from there.

Going out in a place like Mobile is always interesting. Its usually a really young crowd. Basically, 70 percent of the people there at 21, are somewhere else by age 25. Jackson and Lafayette are the same way.

For a company looking to transfer a Gay person who isn't from the Deep South to the Deep South....whoa...that would be a huge problem. Gays from outside the Deep South are frequently raised in the belief that they are to expect to always be treated like they're human beings. No. They're not going to be able to adjust easily to fifth class status in Tupelo.

I get it. People who aren't Gay don't see the same marginalization and exclusion that we do. And perhaps they WANT to think that there isn't a problem. But there are still lots of problems. If you're Gay, you're better off leaving in the vast majority of cases.

Companies that want to attract the talents of LGBT persons, are better off just paying the extra money to be outside the Deep South. People won't move there. And a raft of RFRA laws aren't going to make it easier to attract them.

Honestly, unless HR is quota shopping for diversity, companies aren't looking for prospective employees based on who they sleep with. They just aren't.

As well, you talk about gays not wanting to live in the deep south, my bet is they would rather not be in any non-coastal area of the country save for the largest cities. There just isn't much of a "gay community" in any sort of numbers except the biggest cities. For example, I doubt that Decatur Illinois, Rapid City South Dakota, or Mansfield Ohio have much of a gay scene going on.....

That characterization is precisely why we are all learning new words to describe not being Trans.

Cis is the Latin root meaning the opposite of Trans. It doesn't mean normal.

Companies want to attract talents that help their companies thrive. Doesn't matter who they are.

The point is that companies that don't want to have LGBT candidates refuse to work for them need to be in places where its somewhat doable.

And regarding the South, racial minorities are very leery of the South, and with good reason.

And non-American born people too.

And the non-religious, non-evangelicals, etc.
----

There is a sweet spot. If you can combine a reasonably welcoming environment with lower costs, you can do well. Nashville and Raleigh have done well with that.

Memphis and Jackson....not so much.

----

I think that some people confuse indifferent acceptance (at best) for being welcoming.

----

So a company might site a manufacturing facility in an less welcoming area, but if they want to be able to attract top level management talent for a corporate HQ or a start up, its going to be difficult to do so in a less welcoming area. That's why you see crazy demand for housing in SFO. Because companies have looked at moving elsewhere, and have decided that they'll lose their employees and their connections if they move to some place that isn't welcoming.

Latin is a language with 3 genders, masculine, feminine and neuter.

But the LGBTQABCDEFG crew is "specially" talented. They have the prettiest flower arrangements on their desks and make the best dishes at potlucks. Its just hard to move a box of copy paper with a limp wrist.

There's a reason why Memphis and West Tennessee have stagnated and Nashville has thrived.

Nashville is much more welcoming. Not just for LGBT people, but for non-evangelicals, non-right wingers, non-American born persons, etc.

In Memphis (including Germantown)' "better neighborhoods", its really a lot of the Southern culture 'group think'. Its more of an elitism based upon who your parents were rather than what you do. Its a place to be from, not to move to.

Look, a lot of educated people from outside the Deep South aren't going to want to live in a sea of people who parrot Marsha Blackburn. Not. Going. To. Happen. They don't want their kids to pick her views up either. They find veneration of the Confederacy revolting. They are offended by people using their kids schools to evangelize.

You've called a lot of us here bigots, which is ridiculous. However, using your own logic, the statement you made here actually points to YOU as being the bigot. You apparently have something against white, middle class, heterosexual, Christian, male, Americans.
By the way, Memphis (specifically Shelby county) was one of 2 counties in the state that voted democratic in the presidential election.

I'm actually from Brooklyn, NY and your blanket statements about the south couldn't be further from the truth.

There is a sweet spot. If you can combine a reasonably welcoming environment with lower costs, you can do well. Nashville and Raleigh have done well with that.

Memphis and Jackson....not so much.

Now, now....I'm aware that Shelby voted for Clinton. And that the city of Memphis is represented by a good Congressman (Cohen). But lets get real for a minute. You're making 300k a year for a high value company. You just got moved to Memphis. Where are you likely to end up?...Germantown/East Memphis.

And while the city of Memphis voted for Clinton, I wouldn't call it liberal. Even Steve Cohen has faced significant opposition due to his status as a non-Christian and support for LGBT rights from the Democrats in Memphis.

Where are you going to live in Memphis? Where are you going to send your kids to school in Memphis? Ok, what are the views of people in those areas and schools?

Steve Cohen gets a lot of opposition because he's a leach and a complete ****head. His opposition has nothing to do with his faith or who he supports/doesn't pander to. Memphis has one of the largest Jewish communities in the country, per capita, by the way.
I don't live in Germantown or east Memphis and have no idea what "the views of people" are. Those are bigoted assumptions on your part.
I sent my kids to private school because I can afford it.
By the way, the cost of living in Nashville insanely high and is going up every second of every day.
"Racial minorities" are the majority in MANY southern cities, like Memphis, Jackson, ms, Birmingham etc.

You make bigoted assumptions based on your own bigoted mindset. People like you divide based on race, social status, religion, sexual orientation etc. People like me just don't care, nor address, those kinds of personal things and certainly don't base blanket opinions on those things.

Especially blacks, blacks with university degrees are going back to the South, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas. Close to 50% of black Californians have left that state, mainly for Arizona and Texas. NY and Illinois seeing a lot of departures.
No they are not leery of the South.

Make sure you pass this on to all the gays and liberals. The less of them in this area, the better.
