RE: ECU's next Basketball Coach?
I'm really hoping for Dooley. It's being reported that he has asked for a larger basketball budget that will put us in the middle of the AAC from a budget standpoint which I think is something we have to do if we want to be successful. I also really hope the decision is by the end of the week so the candidate can spend the final 4 networking for assistants and get on the recruiting trail for us.

RE: ECU's next Basketball Coach?
I think Dooley would do great at ECU with an increased budget. I don't think anyone is expecting miracles the first 3-4 years -- just steady improvement with an eye towards being a regular contender to make the NIT and NCAA.

This is all good so far. I would like the see the bottom half of the conference competitive enough that picking up a loss to an 8-12 team wont kill at large hopes

Honestly, if Old Dominion can be good at basketball---there is no reason ECU cant have an excellent program. Plenty of talent in that area. They just need to open the checkbook and bring in a top tier quality coach.

It amazes me to know that we've been bad since coming into D1. I just don't get it. I personally think we should play a season in Christenberry to rule out a curse in Minges.

RE: ECU's next Basketball Coach?
I just want a coach that gives a s***, and wants to be here and win here. And by win I mean a winning season and at least a shot at the post season. If we are not going to put money into basketball then we better start winning in football stat, can't have two broke hires and compete at this level.

Yeah but didn't 94.3 say it would be tomorrow? Henry Hinton isn't known for starting rumors. If he doesn't know he just says so. At least that's what I remember.

Here's another one. WNCT TV Has this: Pirate basketball coaching search to go into next week

GREENVILLE (WNCT) - Sources at East Carolina say the announcement of a new basketball coach will most likely come next week.

Former ECU Director of Athletics Dave Hart is conducting the search. Hart was hired as a special consultant to Chancellor Cecil Staton two weeks ago.

Former Pirate coach Joe Dooley is believed to be the front-runner for the job. Dooley has reportedly asked for an increase for the basketball budget, to move the Pirates to somewhere near the middle of the American Athletic Conference.

Dooley told 9 on your side Sports that he was recruiting this week and would be in San Antonio for the Final Four this weekend.

Other names linked to the opening include former Charlotte coach Bobby Lutz and North Carolina Central coach LeVelle Moton.

Roger that. Good info. Thanks

Dooley is also a candidate for the Rhode Island job as well, money is going to be the hang up here. I'm still saying if we are broke then go with Lutz and call it a day. Even though Dooley is right in wanting to increase the recruiting budget, I just don't see it happening with our current situation.

It’s always been a prioritization issue between basketball and football. We’re a football first school so every spare penny has gone into the football program for decades. Football has actually kept the athletic department in the black for a very long time, until the Compher debacle. Better to concentrate the resources to your money making priority than split with basketball and have both completely suck at the same time has always been the M.O. Again, the Compher years aside. So as annoying as the situation is there has been method behind the madness.

Would be really helpful for Aresco to announce a new TV deal worth 10 million a school right about now....

Ain't this the truth. Another 7-8 million more a year would likely solve some of your problems for certain.

That would be perfect. I'm sure we won't hear that in the next few days, but we should factor some revenue increase when negotiating the new coach's salary. Some higher profile names would easily call for more than what Lebo was getting ($500k base, around $1 million total). Assistant pay increase needs to be a prerogative no matter what.

Let's hope football gets back in the black in the near future, freeing up money for other departments.
