I can certainly understand thinking Moton wouldn’t be a good hire but don’t make things up. 3 conference championships and a 2nd place in which he went 15-1. His first 2 years were as an Independent. Good luck finding a coach who can succeed in that scenario.

does independence mean you have to lose your games????

not sure how that impacts winning, especially at that level, where conference affiliation has no impact on recruiting..
especially considering there were numerous other independents at that time and numerous had better records

and if you want to count the nit season, thats fine, 2 of 9 vs 3 of 9 doesnt really change my point...
but note the guy i was debating for, didnt count his not seasons and said he had 7 of 11 ncaa seasons....that changes my debate to 10 of 11 seasons he had great seasons if we are counting nits

Dooley never should've been fired from ECU, it's up there as the most controversial decision in ECU athletics history.

They were 8-53 the two years prior to Moton and 22-37 the next two years with Moton. He took them from the 8th worst team in D1 to KenPom top 100 in 5 years. When you’re coaching in the worst conference in D1 and your budget is whatever you get from selling candy bars door-to-door, an NIT there is slightly different than an NIT at UCL freaking A or St. John’s.

why is he the right fit...he has already failed..now he plays in a dramatically weaker league and has been coaching in florda...there isnt a single NC player on his roster, not one

there is also no history of himbeing a top level recruiter...

the problem with lower level coaches is that they might be using schemes and Technics that are capable of beating lower tier talent that might not translate up.
tsu, the school that is letting us use their gym, might make the tourney despite a losing record (13-19) they scheduled all P5 for ooc and lost every single game...but dominated in league to get a decent seed

you are justifying a retread, but using simply the fact lavin is a retread as the sole reason for canceling in out (flawed logic)...despite on any comparison lavin is way better than dooley

lavin being fired was more controversial ..fired at ucla for his first ever losing season, he had them in the sweet 16 the season before...fired at st johns because of a contract dispute

Super, so how does recruiting to UCLA and St. John's have anything in common with recruiting to ECU?

Joe Dooley was recruiting to the CAA at ECU. I think he can get that next level guy from NC consistently at ECU. I am betting if it's him, he turns us into a winner, any maybe as soon as next year. Time will tell.

Rick Pitino told ESPN he wants to coach again, whether it's in college or the NBA.

"The level doesn't matter to me," the former Louisville coach said on Friday. "I just need it to be someone who believes in me."

Moton's NC Central team is suddenly at 18 wins after starting 3-0 in the MEAC tourney...looks like a good coach.

He will get an interview when Marshall retires, but not the job.

ECU should look into Mark Fox, he was just fired from the University of Georgia. He actually did pretty well there and also at Nevada when he was the coach there.

Yeah a lot of people have cooled on him but he’s still near the top of my list, certainly a good coach, but can he recruit at the level of the AAC?

one would think Moton would have a lot of recruiting connection in NC after a decade at NC Central.

what about Mike Davis at Texas Southern?

took IU to a Final Four along with taking UAB and Texas Southern to several NCAAs and NITs...only makes 200k and wants a new job.

RE: ECU's next Basketball Coach?
I thought ECU should have fired Lebo last year and hired Moton. This is the type of coach ECU needs. Moton can bring in the kids from NC to possibly get ECU competitive, something ECU has never been in basketball. 1072–1109 Record

NCAA - 1972 and 1993
NIT - Never
CIT - 2011, 2013 Champs, 2014

Is this a credible person on twitter?

Ryan Odom to East Carolina, not a big shocker but not of people standing in line to take it either

If it is true I guess he is a step up automatically over Lebo, because Odom at least got a team to the NCAA tournament.

ECU's next Basketball Coach?
As soon as I heard his father was on the search committee I knew this would be the outcome. Unfortunate but predictable given this current administration.
