Looks like another solid recruit. If the incoming freshman setter is legit, they should be in great shape for years to come.

Will she make All State this year? What is she ranked nationally and in the state of Texas?

So Casl has a great program. If they were seriously interested in her, she should be very good at the next level.

Rice volleyball got another commitment yesterday and I'm happy to hear it's someone from my kids school. Nia McCardell of Ridge Point is class of 2020 so it's 2 years down the road. She's a 5-6 DS/OH and is part of a very athletic family. Her oldest sister Kendra just finished up a 4-year career as a setter for UH, and her dad is Keenan, the WR coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars. She also has a twin sister who I'm pretty sure plays a different sport at a different high school.

The Ridge Point team might be the best VB program in the Houston area next year. They'll have a 6-3 senior going to UT, and also have juniors committed to Texas A&M (6-2), Rice and Kentucky (Reagan Rutherford, daughter of former Owl football player Deric Rutherford). They also will have sophomore 6-1/6-2 twins who I told Ginny Volpe about a year ago as girls she should recruit for sure.

I think I had her dad on my fantasy team several years ago briefly.

Volleyball officially announced the Clemson transfer and then the signing of two more liberos/defensive specialists from California. That means we have 6 new Owls (I'm assuming all are on full scholarship and aren't walk-ons) coming to join the team. I suspect a few of the returnees won't return but it's probably nothing major.

Seems to be a pretty good recruiting class. I wish we could have added some additional height but we will see I guess.

We just got another commit for the class of 2020 (so two more years of high school). Danyle Courtley is a 6-1 OH/DS from Cinco Ranch and she also plays for the Houston Skyline 16 Royal team which also features Rice commit Nia McCardell (and Aislan Lennon, little sister of current Owl Nicole Lennon). That roster also features two more girls from Ridge Point (where my kids attend). Claire Jeter is an A&M commit, and Reagan Rutherford (younger daughter of Deric Rutherford, former Owl DE) who is committed to Kentucky.

Also the 2018 volleyball roster is online at http://www.riceowls.com/sports/w-volley/...y-mtt.html

Just got back from cheering on Ridge Point to the state final four in Texas 6A volleyball. It looks like two of Rice's 2020 recruits (McCardell and Kostelecky) will be playing in the state tournament next week in Garland.

McCardell is a nice libero, but Ridge Point's top 3 players are all super impressive. Fields (UT- a 6-2/6-3 senior LS) is unstoppable as a hitter. Jeter (A&M-junior) is a nice all-around player with the same size as Fields but maybe not her athleticism as a jumper. Rutherford (KY-junior) is a really athletic setter/hitter.

Nia's Ridge Point team is ranked #6 in MaxPreps Preseason National Rankings.
Quote:6. Ridge Point (Missouri City, Texas), 47-6, No. 32

Key returners
Reagan Rutherford | Sr. | S | 832 assists, 477 digs, 382 kills, 105 blocks
Claire Jeter | Sr. | MB | 490 kills, 167 blocks, 54 aces
Kendall Sekula | Sr. | S | 979 assists, 302 digs
Nia McCardell | Sr. | DS | 906 digs, 38 aces

Key losses
Skylar Fields
Outlook: The Texas 6A runners-up lean on the veteran leadership of Kentucky-bound Rutherford, who did a did of everything for the Panthers. They have depth in senior hitter Randee Hennings, who posted 206 kills last year, Lindsey Ogle with 200 kills and junior hitter Tiana Davis' 150 kills.

Ridge Point is loaded again but they may not be deserving of a #6 rating. Losing the UT girl from last year (Fields) is pretty significant. Plus they have a new head coach. They do have some tall freshman including the daughter of former Houston Texan Wade Smith. She's probably 6-0 or 6-1.
