I would be shocked if we won tomorrow. But then again almost 30 years of mediocrity with no shot at the NCAA tourney will do that to you.

If we do somehow pull out the upset I will become much more confident we can actually get a bid this year.

I agree we look better, but the game result will tend to confirm or annul our assessment.

Last season ended on a whimper. We lost six out of the last ten regular games - including a 41 point final game pounding by SMU.

IMO, last season ended on a whimper mostly (not completely) b/c the Lawsons quit sharing the ball, started padding their stats, Dad was looking to get them transferred, and they caused internal strife with Markel and others.

The same dynamic doesn't exist this year, unless you assign the majority of the blame onto Tubby for last year's collapse, which the situation doesn't seem to suggest, nor does history.

Interesting assessment. I haven't been paying incredibly close attention to the Tubby debate among Memphis fans, but my guess is that this opinion puts you in the minority among the Memphis fan base?

Either way, looking forward to the game on Wednesday. UC hasn't played anyone with a pulse in a while.

you had us below temple too at 6 (you had us battling for 6 or 7 with uconn)..to be fair to you, you said 4 was maybe possible for houston if davis stepped up and some of the new players turned out all right (justin was the one adamant that we would suck for sure)

also foster was injured 3 games ago, houston was higher in the standings before he was lost...and ucf's problem isnt tacko or taylors injury but the fact none of them can shoot..they dont have anyone to replace the production of matt williams..they wouldnt have finished very high even if they had everyone healthy.
Houston would have still likely been pushing for third even if everyone was healthy

I don't think there's any way to know how good UCF would have been if Taylor, Dawkins, and Fall had been healthy all year. I suspect they would be very good but I obviously can't prove that.

Anyway, they wouldn't have to score a ton with the way they shut teams down. With Dawkins and Taylor healthy they might have had just enough offensive firepower to make a lot of noise.

I've only seen Houston for spurts this year. Do they have anyone other than Gray that can get to the rack and finish? Is Corey Davis mainly a spot up shooter? UC's defense against guards this year has been superb, so this will be a very interesting matchup.

I imagine Houston will see a bunch of post ups to Clark/Washington and some curl screen action to get Evans the ball close to the hoop. He's a lot bigger than Houston's guards and can elevate over them.

Considering this game is at home, I anticipate a 10-15 point win for UC but this could finally be the game where Gray actually does something productive against UC's defense.

corey shoots a lot but isnt a "post up" shooter, he can create is own shot, he has the best defense and the best handles on the team, he doesnt drive too often because of his size but push come to shove he will take you to the hole (hit the dagger vs wsu on a drive)..he is the early favorite for our best player next year

galen is slasher, he can also get to the rim, but teams know he cant shoot so they actually leave him open on shots, and never let him drive

and your whole game plan seems to be based on last years team...last year you put your best defensive payers on rob and dotson the entire game because no one else could score...im not sure how that works this year ..this year we are 10 deep and only 3 of the 10 cant score...last year you used your big men to guard our guards..this year 3 of our bigs have had major scoring games this year. im not sure if you'll have the luxury to to put clark on gray or corey

this game is really interesting to me
im really hoping justinhub shows up during the game or after, between him, you and jerry talking about how you knew FOR SURE houston would be trash without dotson, this is the game i was looking forward to the most all season...

Are you talking about me? Because nowhere did I say Houston would be "trash." Actually on the contrary I have said repeatedly that I thought Houston would be in the mix for the 4th AAC bid.

I don't generally read your posts but my name caught my attention.

But I do think UC wins this one comfortably at home.

What big on Houston is better than Kyle Washington? What big is better than Gary Clark? Who do they have guard Jacob Evans?

SMU peaked at #22 in Kenpom. Houston hasn't touched that yet.

And I said Houston would be worse offensively without Dotson. They are. They are almost 30 spots worse on offense. I also didn't expect UCF to lose Dawkins, Taylor and now Tacko.

You are very confident going into the nations longest home winning streak. You act like you've dominated teams on the road this year. The reality, houston sucks on the road.

your best road win is #147 Saint Louis who is trash. When you've played top 100 teams on the road this season you are 0-2.

Add in that the reason no one has been able to stop your offense all year is because.... You've yet to play a top 70 defense all season long.

The 3 best defenses you've played this year were:
#75 SLU
#79 Providence
#74 Wichita State.

This isn't just the best defense you've faced all year, its the best defense you've faced in the last 18 years (since 2002 at least).

You can chill on the confidence. If you beat us, I'll gladly say congrats. But you have very little reason to be this confident in our gym.

I don't think anybody is saying Houston is better than UC.

That said, Houston absolutely can win this game if they play well. They probably need UC to have a subpar game as well but that's true for most really good teams at home.

And the game isn't played on paper. Yeah, UC has more "talent," but both teams are greater than the sum of the parts. It will definitely take a good game from Houston but this UC team is due for a loss at home.

Houston Does need this win far more than UC does.

Ha but I don't want them to get into the tourney because they beat us at home.

Looking at their resume using the new RPI Tier system, they need to sweep us or sweep SMU.

Here is there Resume thus far: [Image: PgqDpheXXMQxyjJeSAuHscw0Urle0iZEk1dZB9sE...ize_mode=3]

I'm not sure anyone is arguing that UC's isn't in better shape. Why the comparison? I'm hoping that Houston gets a few (non-UC) wins that keep them on the right side of the bubble. I'd love four AAC teams in the tourney.

IMO. UC would have to have more like a D game. They'd have to shoot 30%, not grab any offensive rebounds and just not show up defensively.

But the good thing about this UC team so far is that they've yet to come into a bigger game unprepared, especially at home. I mean we tore meat from SMU and they were fully healthy.

I mean, Temple went into Houston and gave them a hell of a game. Temple came into BB&T and looked like they wanted to get back on the plane after 10 minutes or so
