1. Should we all simply be calling this 5th/3rd arena or 5th/3rd or the "Five Three" () all the time or do certain parts have different names (e.g. Jucker Court) or 5/3 arena (in Shoemaker Center) tied to donations or whatever that should be referred to?
2. Along those lines, and I don't mean this to sound accusatory: Is there any part of this still considered the Shoemaker center or is anything Shoemaker (e.g. referring to "The Shoe") 100% completely outdated with regard to this facility? And did we meet their expectations in terms of sponsorship or did they kind of get the shaft?
i think once a building acquires a name, it'll always be a name. love the shoe. its got cache
One of the photos showed that it's still the Shoemaker Center, so it's still the Shoe, definitely not calling it any variation of that crappy bank.

RE: New 5/3 Arena update
Here's the story as I know it.
The Shoemaker Center contains Fifth Third Arena within its confines. Shoemaker was the Lieutenant Governor who secured major funding for the building, hence it was named in his honor. Years later, Fifth Third made a major contribution toward UC Athletics and was honored with naming rights for the arena portion only. Ed Jucker Court was an honorary naming for the legendary coach who helped bring two national championships to our University. So it's Ed Jucker Court in the Fifth Third Arena at The Shoemaker Center.
All this is not unique to UC, in today's world of college sports where naming opportunities provide needed revenue. There may even be a well concealed utility closet somewhere in the building that could be named for one of us for just the right gift.

I think Ed and his wife also donated $1,000,000
If UC was willing to sell the naming of Carson Field and Jucker Court I bet they could get millions. I would pony a million for Doss's Notches with big signs on each

I'm thinking more along the lines of The dossbig's Port-O-Let Row.
And thanks OKIcat!

If you really want to nail down the complete name:
Ed Jucker Court
in the Fifth Third Arena
at The Myrll A Shoemaker Center
part of Lindner Varsity Village
on the campus of the University of Cincinnati

anybody else remember when Shoemaker's son, Mick was a guard on the Gale Catlett teams? Mick loved the university. His senior year speech at the basketball banquet was the most emotional one I ever had heard. Coach Badger might have been his coach that last season.

I'm sure if you call and offer to target a donation to put decals in Nippert, they'll be more than glad to listen.

Naming rights start at 50k. Just a million for a wing and 40-60% of the cost of newly constructed or renovated space.

I'm admitting my age, but I remember Mick too. Excellent long range shooter off the bench as I recall? No doubt he influenced his father years later to help UC get the on-campus arena funding. This was at a time when many of our campus buildings had become antiquated and there was little campus construction going on in Ohio.
Today's students couldn't even imagine the physical condition of campus at that time when compared with what they have today.

RE: New 5/3 Arena update
Maybe it's been discussed elsewhere. But will we see new uniforms to open play in the new arena? I've wondered if they might do something retro, as in 1961 & 1962? It would seem appropriate on a big stage next Wednesday night.
