RE: Calvin Anderson
If he significantly improves it might help in his situation. Didn’t stand out in CUSA, so might go to Michigan or UT and not even start with decreased playing time

RE: Calvin Anderson
I don't think anyone is killing this kid for leaving, but rather for the comments in the first post.

Most 20’s kids have this attitude, they have’t had the life experiences yet to be thankful for natural talent and good health that they have

It's another to come out and say it - especially the way he said it. And like one poster wrote above when he played the elite DE's in the league he didn't exactly have a good showing.
I agree.
If I am one of his former teammates, I would take that as a slap in the face.
Lol you’re kidding right? If you think you have any players that wouldn’t transfer out to start at UT, Michigan or Auburn you’re delusional. Most of our guys come to get a degree and he did that. Now he can go play his year of semi-pro before he tries the NFL. He’s in the Rice tv commercial and has complimented Rice, Bailiff and now Bloomgren in multiple articles.
No, I'm not kidding and I don't use "lol".
“I think it is more about who I am playing against. I want to display my talents against better players. Obviously, it’s a bonus to be on a good team, a team that can win a championship."
"..the motivation for the transfer was to play against better defensive linemen.”
I'm sure there are players everywhere that would love to play on a team that could contend for a NC but just do it. No need to condescend your teammates and conference when doing so.
And if you don't think he was saying he's too good to be on that team and in this league then you are the one who is delusional.
Everyone knows Rice isn’t playing for a national championship next year. The linemen in the big 10/SEC/big 12 are on average much better than CUSA. Not debatable at all. CUSA is a JV conference compared to them no matter what y’all think and you clearly just don’t want to read that in writing. He’s not condescending towards his teammates he’s stating a fact that his draft status will go up if he plays well on a high profile team. His teammates all agree with him I’m sure.
If he was leaving without a degree I’d say it’s stupid (like 4 of our 6 basketball transfers) but he’s not.
When did I say anything about those conferences not having better talent, on average? I didn't. Guess you are the one failing to read.
You are having a hard time comprehending this dialogue it appears, so let me type it, again, in the simplest form I can:
Read slow, no one has issue with the guy leaving. I'm sure teams are chomping at the bit for a CUSA Honorable Mention OL to come catapult his career at their program. It was the comments he made about the players in this league that made him look petty.

Yeah, they are. Clearly they see something that CUSA didn't.

RE: Calvin Anderson
I don't think anybody who hasn't been a fan of Rice or gone to Rice can really understand what it's like to be an athlete here. With the fan support and the animosity towards them from the general student body, I'm amazed we don't see way more athletes transfer. For the most part, Rice is just not a good place for athletes. You have to work unbelievably hard in a place where you're basically isolated (for the most part...there are exceptions) and your reward is Saturdays with 50 students in the student section. And this isn't me misunderstanding the previous comments on this thread...I fully get what everybody is saying, and don't necessarily disagree. I get that the criticism of other players and the conference is drawing ire. All I'm saying is that answering the question of why you transferred from a school like Rice is difficult to answer without insulting the school.
Also, just to be clear, he is actually a good player. Allowed 1 sack this year and like 6 pressures.

It was a bit of tongue-in-cheek comment.
But I digress.

Im saying he’s correct about the players in CUSA.... the talent level is lower. Players don’t grow up dreaming about playing CUSA football in front of 20k fans.

11 tackles (6 solo). 3 TFL for -23 yards. A forced fumble. A pass break-up. 2 sacks for -8 yards. And Davenport tied Rice in scoring in the game (which UTSA won 20-7).
I'm not sure he should want to be playing against better linemen in 2018.
Calvin didn't line up against Davenport. That was actually Sam Pierce.
