No, it's exactly what I said. Bring a team down here and some will embrace it for all the reasons you stated...that and there are a ton of northern transplants. But many won't because they never played ice hockey and really didn't have a chance short of going to the ice rink regularly.

It's no different than a person growing up in Nebraska not having much sailing experience.

One doesn't need to have played a sport to appreciate the quality or skill necessary to be good at it let alone appreciate it. I've never played cricket or curling but I can still appreciate the sports. I love watching curling during the Olympics, it's a fascinating sport that requires some level of thinking and strategy.

Maybe it's because hockey (and baseball for the most part) hasn't had to dumb itself down for people, unlike the NBA.

Who knows, but I still think if people took the time to learn and watch the sport, they'd grow to love it. 35 million Canadiens can't be wrong... 03-lmfao

You are going to have to elaborate on the bolded because I just don't see the evidence.

That said, it seems as though you are dismissing C2's comments based purely on the idea the hockey is somehow too cerebral for the plebes to understand. But accessibility is important. Just look at the marginal gains MLB's inner city RBI program has had with bringing African Americans back into baseball. For a myriad of reasons, the American past time simply doesn't resonate with blacks like it used to. And this is with a sport that is far more accessible than hockey.

Limited ice rinks, expensive gear and a marginal penetration all contribute to hockey invisibility in the sun belt. The same thing could be said for skiing, snowboarding and luge.

Not just African-Americans but people in general. People in general don't grow up playing it unless they have access to rinks regularly. That's a pain rather than just picking up the ball after school and playing around the corner.

That's quite simple.

The league has become 5 guys standing around waiting for someone to either dunk or shoot a three. Defense is a relative term, relative in that it BARELY exists. Traveling? LOL. Pretty soon they'll just eliminate that pesky dribbling thing if you're within 25 ft of the basket. It's pretty much that way now. Head toward the basket, take 2-3 strides and shoot. It's become a league that's sole goal is to make it to ESPN's top ten.

I never said that hockey was too cerebral for the "plebes". That was your assessment of what I said, which IMO says more about you than it does me. The basis of what I said is that hockey isn't a game you can catch on to by simply watching. It takes time to understand the rules. It's usually best to watch a game with someone who knows the sport and can tutor a person. I realize that in today's society of instant gratification and NOW, taking time can be difficult, especially when the "dunk" is instant feel good.

I didn't dismiss C2's point, I actually believe there's much truth in it. Lack of exposure is a problem as is lack of participation. But like I said, if people were willing to take some TIME and give it a shot, they'd soon realize what a great sport it is.

Well the NBA eliminated many of the defensive tools in favor of more points, a move mirrored by other sports leagues. Hockey's intricacies are no more difficult to discern than those in baseball or football.

As for the bolded, you called the NBA dumb and that it willing made this move to appeal more broadly to people. My response was within the context of your assertion IMO.

I understand that. The rest of the leagues haven't reached the point of being a parody of themselves like the NBA. Changing the rules to be more "wide open" and fun is one thing, changing them to become borderline WWE is another.
