That being said, because most schools are playing on Saturday the "good officials" get sent to the games involving the power programs. And the rest get sent to the less fortunate conferences. Sometimes we get good crews on Thursdays, because most power conferences don't play on that day, but contrast is stark on Saturdays.

Surely it is possible to have some sort of ramification for this type of behavior by an official - at the least, at NCAA wide level.

It may not be his style -- and this is if course said with the benefit of hindsight -- but this may have been an appropriate moment for Konkol to get himself a technical, if not also tossed.

There is. We'll see what happens. It may not be made public, but I suspect there will be some consequence for the official.

Totally agree but our coach is a very timid guy...

Maybe not as emotional as coaches we had in the past. It would be hard to be a D-1 coach being a very timid person. Konkel does well in press conferences, interviews. He is more of a calm less emotional person but not timid IMO

Ya, I've been very impressed with stadiums online feeds.

Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.

RE: Feb 8 and 10 basketball games
We had talked about the foul discrepancies at home and on the road a number of times this year and I had mentioned that for whatever reason it doesn't translate to MT when we play at home in spite of the fact that most of the time we are either bigger, more athletic or generally better at putting ourselves in a position to get fouls. Yet the fouls don't come. Do underdogs get the benefit of the doubt in the Murphy Center?

In the last three halves (game vs. Rice and first half vs UNT), the opponents have only been called for 13 fouls (not counting the intentional fouls called at the end of the game. While I expect MT to be called for more fouls the discrepancy even when we are at home is not consistent with what we experience on the road in this league. Any ideas why?

Fouls on Rice/UNT: 13*
Fouls on MT: 29

Free Throws:
Rice/UNT: 35
MT: 9*

No home court advantage there.

*Excludes intentional fouls in the final minute

I obviously haven't seen MT play more than a couple times this year, but you guys are ranked in the bottom 30 in terms of opposition FTA/FGA. So it might just be that you guys play a little handsy on defense, because you're called for a lot of fouls regardless of where you play. The discrepancy in the Rice game is probably expected, although maybe not that extreme, considering Rice is ranked top 65 in FTA/FGA. North Texas is harder to explain because they also commit a ton of fouls.

It's not handsy as you put it. We definitely play a physical style and I would expect - on average 4 to 6 more fouls - called on MT than opponents but certainly not the discrepancy we see at home vs away. It doesn't explain why the opponents don't get called for fouls on them when they come to the Boro.

I will say this though. Things evened up tonight in the second half. We got the benefit of the doubt we didn't in the last three halves. Kermit must have got into some refs at halftime.

UNT demonstrated exactly why I was worried about this game. They played well and Smart was freakin unconscious.

That's a team I do not want to see again in March. You guys got yourselves a good coach there UNT.

USM beats Charlotte 72-54. USM was up 72-42 but Charlotte went on a 12-0 run the final 2:15 to make the outcome appear closer than it “might” appear.
