Sounds like a good get but there's a catch 22 on the two years. If he's a NFL type player and plays great this coming season why would he come back for a 6th year of college. He has great size for a QB and could be the piece that gets Marshall another conference championship.

If he is only in Huntington 1 year then we will cross that bridge when it comes.

I just watched some of Thomson's highlights and wondered how did this guy slip through all 129 IA schools and end up at Wagner College. I haven't seen a QB throw in to as many tight windows as Thomson and complete the throw since Pennington was in Huntington.

Not annointing this guy as the next coming yet. He threw for about 2600 yards, 16 tds, not mind blowing numbers in the FCS. Bring an NFL talent because if his size might not make him the best college QB. Let's see what he can do in camp.

I thought Pennington just heaved it up and let Moss do his thang:)

I hope there will be competition for the QB position and I agree annointing him as the starter seems a little premature. Green is our QB for the future and bringing this guy in could jeopardize his staying at MU.

We actually hosted Wagner in football a few years back. They were pretty dreadful but you could tell they had a couple of D1 players sprinkled in among the rest who would be walk-ons at best at even the worst of D1 schools. I think the Northeast continues to be an area where high school football players can slip among the cracks.

At least I hope that's the case as we're signing a big OL from New York today and I think he can be a potential starter even though none of the recruiting sites have assigned any stars to his recruiting profile.

He did in 1997. Pennington did the rest in 98 & 99.

I didn't anoint Thomson on anything, just that he has and can throw into tight windows and haven't seen that in Huntington since Pennington. He also isn't a turnover machine, 11 INTs in 2 years, 5 as a freshman and 6 as a Soph.

Pennington "Heave" a ball. Then you've not watched to much of him. Plus when Moss was way to fast to out run a double or triple team there was no use in heaving the ball, just put it on the money.

Pennington didn't have a gun for an arm like some, but he more than made up for it with precision short passes. Cato was the same way. Cato was the master of putting a pass as the exact point that only his receiver could get to the ball. If he had the WRs that we have now, I can't even imagine.

If Cato was at Marshall now he would be putting up Case Keenum college type numbers, he would probably have close to 20,000 passing yards. Truthfully Cato only had 2 WRs with break away speed. Aaron Dobson his freshman year and DeVonte Allen. He did have Devin "MooMoo" Smith one year. The rest of Cato's WR were just great route runners that could get open, especially Tommy Shuler.

Also Dobson was dealing with a quad strain most of his SR year so it wasn't like Cato was getting a 100% healthy WR with speed that year.
