Ya, I think you're kinda confusing "going cheap" with "making the wrong hire" by using those examples.

Sampson has proven to be the best hire for basketball, but it's taken him 4 years to finally have something to show for his efforts. Sampson's fist year was horrible, a losing season if you remember correctly, but I never gave up on him. So I don't understand the negative Applewhite comparison after just one year, which wasn't even a losing season like Sampson's was. In fact, Applewhite posted the same first year record as two of the previous coaches we've had that we thought were great, and were then "stolen away".

Let the guy prove himself.

The last two years were great, he quickly got the team back to where it was with Penders after Dickey couldn't stop the decline (Penders had lost his fuel at the end). The only thing disappointing about the last two seasons was the conference tournament showings, otherwise, he got the team back on track long before now.

Yes, that's what I was referring to, and getting past that NIT stigma. Getting into the NCAA with an at-large is something we haven't had in like... forever.

I gotcha, I just think it didn't take four years to get it going. He went from having nothing to almost snatching an at-large bid last year.

It’s because all the troublemakers have mysteriously disappeared.
They're hiding out on the UC board if you want to stop by and say hello.

Took a look. Quite a few comical posters. The best was someone blaming the loss on the refs .... In the same sentence in which he said he LISTENED to the game on sattelite radio.

That one passes the "eye test"

Or you could just go to literally every team in America’s home board after a big loss and read pretty much the same stuff. Or you could read a book. Or fly a kite.

Hey a*****... That was me...who had to drive my kids back to their mother after my weekend. Which is why I had to listen on the friggin' radio.

And I didn't "blame" the refs. But we (UC) have history with that POS Teddy Valentine and he called an uneven game. But you win or lose on your own and UC lost.

I also congratulated y'all over on the "Congrats WSU" thread.

You Shox fans are the absolute biggest jerks that I have ever come across... That!'a why UC fans aren't "over here."

They're just making the most of it while they can because they know this can't last forever. Yes it's over the top and embarrassing but what else are you gonna do in Kansas?

Houston is playing good no doubt but there are some AAC teams that are SERIOUSLY getting up to play the SHOX at it's not fair. 03-hissyfit

We got treated with respect in the Valley but never this kind of respect.

There's no other explanation for this Jekyll and Hyde bull****.

Temples Jekyll and Hyde has nothing to do with the Shockers and everything to do with our lack of toughness and discipline from HC on through players. We miss a few shots we give up. Can’t understand how one gets through youth sports, high school, AAU and into Division 1 with a baby attitude like that but we got a team full.

"This"? Whatever might "this" be? 03-lmfao

Our run? Our National Power status? Get in line hater. People have been calling for our demise since 2012. With our highest ranked class in the Marshall era coming in, we're only gonna get stronger.

Great stat info courtesy of @MaybeJeffConrad:
@UHCougarMBK +31 (53-22) rebounding margin Sunday vs. Temple was biggest for program since +35 (65-30) in 109-68 win over Nevada on Dec. 2, 1989.

Temple is 290th in rebounding this year. Two-hundred-&-ninetieth. Speaks directly to our lack of coaching and toughness.

I think the Shockers were treated more than fair @ Cincy. I saw a couple whistles that could have gone either way and probably appeared to have bailed us out on a couple plays. Cincy fans had reason to boo a couple times but certainly not the entire game. We also had a few no-calls go against us. Since we were at your place and you're a top 5 team, I would have expected a LOT more home cooking. Because the calls seemed fairly even is why I say we were treated really well.

Cincy fan most likely expected more home cooking, and when they didn't get it, they felt slighted. What Cincy learned tonight is that Wichita State is a national brand and we get respect - especially in big games. I find that reality very humbling. There was a time when we used to get screwed (mid-majored) in every important game. In the NCAA game against Kansas we had the refs firmly on our side earning a significant foul call disparity. The fouls were actually 0-6 before we were charged with our first. I still shake my head over that.

I can't speak for everyone in the arena, but the real problem with the officials last night was really just one official: Ted Valentine. He misses calls just like the rest of them, but the issue is that he actively incites the home crowd and occasionally even the coaches. The dude is a really bad referee because of his actions, not necessarily his calls. I sincerely do not understand why he is allowed to continue to officiate the way he does. It's the exact opposite of a referee's job description.

Shawn Williams from ECU is going to make whichever school he transfers to very happy. (No rumors or anything... our best player just usually transfers, so it wouldn't surprise me.)

Ted Valentine likes the limelight and disdains his role. His continued D-1 employment is a mystery.

Highly unlikely. He's a redshirt freshman, he would lose a year of eligibility.

Hey it wasn't a personal attack. Nothing wrong with listening to the game. It does make it pretty funny though when you call out reffing when you aren't watching though.
