The Potential Legal and NCAA Fallout From Josh Pastner's Lurid Litigation Dispute
Good Read

"For Pastner, any evidence or testimony that tarnishes his reputation could impact his employment with Georgia Tech. It could also prompt the NCAA to investigate further. The NCAA is likely concerned that, at a minimum, Pastner and Georgia Tech officials seemingly failed to stop Bell from becoming so close to student-athletes. Also, while the NCAA is likely pleased to see Georgia Tech launch an investigation into alleged sexual assaults, the NCAA could open a separate and more independent probe.

If Georgia Tech concludes that Pastner’s conduct violated contractual obligations to maintain a program in compliance with NCAA rules and/or violated contractual obligations to refrain from conduct that damages the reputation of the school, Georgia Tech could elect to fire Pastner “with cause” (also called “for cause”). This is the approach that the University of Louisville used to fire Pitino. It is one where the school saves a great deal of money: the coach isn’t paid any amount on the remainder of the contract."

What bothers me the most is why Josh Pastner is even close friends with this Ron Bell and his girlfriend and gave them access to any Memphis or Georgia Tech Players. That to me is unacceptable and he should be dismissed!

Good thing Bell wasn't on the BoT.

Tough call for Stansbury if he is given a fire-Pastner-for-FREE card. The GTAA is under financial duress. But would you really get a better deal than paying $1m for Pastner while Memphis pays another $1m? Would you find a better coach? Is Pastner the right guy? His assistants have certainly been an unquestionable upgrade. And as bad statistically as GT is on offense, from a system standpoint they're miles better than they were under Gregory. There's an actual method to the madness now, and offense isn't merely something done between defensive stands. The main knock on Pastner right now is that maybe he can't manage physical workload (the team is falling apart health wise this year) and while he hasn't been terrible recruiting ... he certainly hasn't recruited at the caliber you need to compete seriously in the ACC either.

Tough one.

This whole story is just weird. You would think he would have better judgement than to allow this toxic guy to be around college kids. Stansbury has a tough (or maybe not so tough) decision to make. After a promising year last year, the whole program has gone in the toilet and is a joke. Where is the light at the end of the tunnel? Not sure I would send my kid to play for him.

The flip side is it will look bad to fire the standing ACC COTY who has the valid injury card to play. I don't think Pastner has fielded a healthy starting lineup yet all year. And who do you know that is available that is better? Mark Price wouldn't be a bad call, but he didn't exactly set the world on fire at UNC Charlotte. Craig Neal was fired at New Mexico last year.

I feel like if Pastner got a lights out recruiter to replace LaBarrie we'd be somewhere. Hell we're still paying Paul Hewitt, that's the one thing he actually COULD do. Just replace LaBarrie with Hewitt. You'd vicariously save a few million by the time Hewitt's buyout finally ends.

That's WAY outside the box thinking... Do you REALLY think Hewitt would even take the call?
