Apparently the NCAA is in trouble
They needed “historical” cover.

Cover for the coup in my opinion.

RE: Apparently the NCAA is in trouble
What gives me comfort in times like these is that good ol’ Dan Jockitch called the shot months ago. Glad to know he has the trust of UofL administration or NCAA or a fellow basketball announcer.
Nice!
Glad he was the “first” to know.
I’m gonna let this cake bake.

I would imagine the BoT’s, The “President”, the “AD”, the Press (both local and National) and the local radio “spin” are fully prepared with their messaging. Friendly bloggers and posters have been given the “green light” to guide the grievances and direct the message.

Apparently the NCAA is in trouble
If the NCAA had even a shred of credibility/respect left then I would care about what they have to say but them admitting that these penalties exceed their own rules is the cheery on top. After Penn St, NC, UL & recently with ND they have proven to be a useless organization.

Quit whining. It's past time for Louisville fans to admit this was one lurid scandal that was inevitably going to draw harsh punishment. Yes, UNC should have drawn harsh punishment too but that doesn't mean Louisville doesn't deserve what it's getting.

If anything, Louisville fans ought to be relieved that they're not getting any punishment that goes into the future. It's all behind you now. Once you get a permanent coach, you can recruit again.

In general, Louisville and its fans need to realize that the school is finally in a major conference. It's time to go legit and stay legit. You can't run a pirate operation anymore.

I just hope Jockitch either admits he is a liar (to protect his sources) or admits he talked to someone “in the room”. My guess is he was told by “someone in the room”
He apparently knew before Vince as Vince called him out in a link I previously provided on the “state of the program”

04-jawdrop Oh, hell! Blame whoever you want. But at the end of the day this belongs to Pitino, Jurich and Ramsey! Remember what Jurich was hired for? He fired Crume and Cooper! He promised to run the cleanest ship in the NCAA! Well, how did that turnout, Pitino, Jurich and Ramsey worshipers? Postel and the new BOT, did what had to be done. They had plenty of cause to fire those sons of #itches! 07-coffee3

Courts will determine that as contracts are legal documents.

Does this ruling help Postel/Grissom/Pappa......Tyra in their case against Jurich and Pitino?
Don’t expect much pushback from the University on this “historical” ruling.

By the way, let’s make sure we tell the next hires this won’t happen again. “We” trust you.

I doubt they needed much help with Pitino to begin with but this doesn't hurt.

One of two things happened leading up to the firing: Either an assistant coach committed violations with Pitino's knowledge or an assistant coach committed violations without his knowledge immediately after the program was cited for lack of institutional control. There is no third option and either is a justifiable reason to fire someone for cause.

Who said otherwise? I can't name one Cardinal fan who wasn't appalled at what happened with KP. The university self imposed appropriate punishment under NCAA guidelines & fully cooperated in the investigation. The UofL absolutely deserved those sanctions. My problem here is that these sanctions exceed the NCAA rules &, according to Tyra, the NCAA even states that the sanctioning committee did so. This also sends a message to the rest of the membership that cooperating with the NCAA doesn't provide any leniency does it not? Look at the ND case as another recent example, they acted swiftly & some said to harshly & yet the NCAA exceeded their own rules & leveled harsh penalties.

Who do these sanctions really hurt? Pitino was only given a 5 game suspension. The recruits involved never came to the UofL. The players on the team, which was a large majority of them, now has had their records erased. What did Luke Hancock & Tim Henderson do wrong for example? What about Trey Lewis & Damian Lee? They weren't even on the team & had their last shot at March Madness taken from them at the alter of the NCAA. Fine the university millions, give Pitino a show cause, wipe the guilty players stats from the records, just do something to punish the guilty. How about having the governing body follow its own rules. I could care less that NC got off, I feel sorry for the Hancock's & Henderson's in all of this.

What was the BE?

Just to clarify, the NCAA didn't cite the UofL with a lack of institutional control. The major violation cited came against Pitino which was a failure to monitor. He was given a 5 game suspension for that citation.

I'm not sure how you put this on Ramsey. Ramsey had his own issues. Pitino absolutely deserved to be fired, Jurich is debatable. I understand why Jurich was fired but I wish it was handled better. These are just part of the reasons that I don't have any confidence in the current leadership at the UofL. Examples: The chairman shouldn't be given the luxury of being "shy". The UofL is now well over 500 days without a permanent president. No further oversight or transparency within the UofL has been created. What is their plans for the future? You can't move forward if you don't have a direction. Burying our heads in the sand is what allowed the last group of leaders to lead us down this road, I prefer not to make that mistake again.

Right, you're not whining about the punishment your school received but you really want to tell us how unfair and excessive it is.

Suck it up and move on.

It's my understanding that most of these high$$ contracts contain 1-a morals clause (fwiw), and 2-a clause that the HC maintain NCAA compliance (sometimes combined with legal compliance). Unless the contract specifically outlines actions to be taken, the university can terminate, even for a minor violation. Saying, "I didn't know," may get you of a minor violation or two. When you have repeated major violations, it doesn't matter if you knew or not.

I do believe it is excessive by their own rules. I also believe that the NCAA isn't consistent. The NCAA hordes $ that it makes from March Madness & doesn't distribute it fairly. The NCAA could be better in many ways, the UofL verdict is just the latest example in a long line of issues. Yeah ... we need to start acting like we're in a major conference ... and wallow in the muck and get players like Corey Maggette to play for us.

Right. Now that Louisville is in a major conference they need to keep clean and "go legit" like Duke and every other top program.
