It's just obvious
Many programs use/hire compliance officers to help guide their own athletic departments to avoid the pitfalls of both the NCAA and the college experience. Student athletes, just trying to excel in their own sport, look for guidance of compliance. Who better to guide them through that journey? It is a sacred trust that the compliance officer must dance. True to the student athlete and also true to the school. A daunting task. Perhaps cooler heads will prevail in this conundrum.
As with all my posts, as has been documented, this is pure opinion on my part. Thanks for everyone's opinion as I value those as I do my own.
